Results of the Extraordinary General Assembly

On March 30th, 2021 EuroMarine held an Extraordinary General Assembly in order to discuss and vote on several key items for the network. The full minutes of this GA will be posted to the meeting's page once they have been approved for distribution. However, EuroMarine can announce the following key results:

Joint Coordination Offer Approved

Thank you to all the representatives of Member Organisations who attended the Extraordinary GA meeting on 30 March 2021. EuroMarine is happy to announce that at this meeting it was unanimously agreed to approve the joint coordination offer submitted by DTU Aqua, CIIMAR, AquaTT and EMBRC. This vote means that the EuroMarine Association, Chairs and Secretariat are now able to begin the transition process which will take place over the coming months.

Further details of the transition will be announced as they take place, but the timely approval will allow this process to be carried out without any interruption to ongoing or planned EuroMarine activities.

EuroMarine Welcomes EMBRC as New Member

EuroMarine gladly welcomes its newest Member Organisation, the European Marine Biological Resource Centre (EMBRC). EMBRC is a European research infrastructure that provides researchers and companies with access to marine organisms and the facilities to study them, including experimental facilities and technological platforms. EMBRC will also be playing an important role for the Secretariat as part of the approved joint coordination offer.

Plan for Future Scientific Activities Discussed

During the meeting Patrizio Mariani (DTU Aqua) led the GA in a lively discussion over potential ways in which the network should support scientific activities in the coming year(s). The membership debated how funding could best be appropriated amid the ongoing pandemic as well as how EuroMarine might best contribute to the UN's Decade of Ocean Science. Attendees were invited to respond to a poll, and the results of both the poll and the captured discussion will be used to direct the Steering Committee's planning at their next meeting. This poll will be e-mailed to participants who may not yet have had an opportunity to fill it out.

Updated Activity Dates

Due to the impacts of the ongoing pandemic on research, travel and events many of the EuroMarine-funded activities which were due to take place over the last year and a half have been postponed and/or adapted into remote events. Next week EuroMarine will release another special-issue newsletter with an updated list and description of all the ongoing and pending activities.
