Vision Aiders Moment: Superheroes
Esbikenh was a junior kindergarten teacher who realized that the children he taught didn’t know their ancestral language, Anishinaabemowin.

He decided to make superhero videos where all the superheroes would speak in Anishinaabemowin. He applied for a project grant from the United Church Healing Fund which is almost entirely funded through Mission and Service. With financial support, Esbikenh’s filming has begun.
Ashley Riley, the librarian and arts coordinator at Antler River Elementary School plays a starring role in the films. Her mother was a residential school survivor who wasn’t allowed to speak her language at school. Now she is slowly relearning it, and she says a prayer in her own language every morning. Ashley believes that each one of us has the power to make a difference, a gift to share with our community, and the world.

Through Mission and Service, your generous gifts help repair harm and extend hope.

Please support the vital, healing work we do together by designating part of your offering for M & S.

Light a Candle for a Guaranteed Livable Income
On Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. local time, on the eve of the national Liberal and New Democratic Party conventions, The United Church of Canada is asking Canadians across the country to share a picture of a lit candle at that time on your social media networks in solidarity with small vigils being held around the country to spread light about the importance of a guaranteed livable income.

Light a candle, take a picture, and post it to social media (#UCCanlivableincome, #guaranteedlivableincome #basicincome). Send it with a message to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland, your local MP(opens in a new tab), and news outlets. Follow up with an e-mail using the e-mail template available, or craft your own. Please cc: takeaction@united-church.ca(opens in a new tab). Encourage others to do the same. Photos from coast to coast will be posted on The United Church of Canada Facebook(opens in a new tab) page.
