A noon service of Holy Communion will be streamed on YouTube at 12:00 P.M. from the Sanctuary. Communion and prayer will be offered beginning at 1:00 P.M. through 3:00 P.M. outside.
La Trinidad UMC is collaborating with St. Paul UMC and Travis Park UMC (our two other downtown churches) to produce a special Good Friday video program. Bishop Joel Martinez will serve as host and liturgist as the seven clergy appointed to these historic churches lead reflections on the Way of the Cross with 14 stations of the cross demonstrating the solidarity of Jesus with those suffering injustice within our world. This video will be simulcast through all three churches at 6 P.M. on Good Friday.
La Trinidad UMC will offer a 7 A.M. in-person Sunrise Service on Easter Morning outside the church facility. Face-coverings will remain mandatory for participants while not leading in a speaking or singing role.
The 9:30 A.M. and 11:00 A.M. Easter services will be offered online-only.
In late February, Kellum Family Medicine contacted Rev. John Feagins with the opportunity to host a 220 dose vaccination clinic at La Trinidad UMC. The purpose of this clinic was to create vaccination access equity within the community served by La Trinidad UMC.
Prior to the clinic, a church-wide survey revealed that at least 123 church members and constituents had already gained access to a COVID-19 vaccine. Rev. Feagins then enrolled an additional 97 La Trinidad members, constituents, and extended family members. In addition, he enrolled 123 members of the community at large, covering unvaccinated faculty at Cooper Academy at Navarro, our Academia America ministry partners, four blocks of unvaccinated neighbors within the church's subdivision, and others, completing the total of 220 doses at the clinic.
The first dose of this vaccine was administered on Thursday, March 4 in the church gym. The second dose for this clinic will be administered to those enrolled on Thursday, April 1, 2021 beginning at 1:00 P.M. As this clinic will take place on Maundy Thursday, Holy Communion and prayer will be available, and our Good Friday "Way of the Cross" program will be pre-recorded (see above).
Importantly, two weeks after this second-dose clinic, 95% of the active adult members and constituents of La Trinidad UMC will be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Our church and community are very grateful to Dr. Danny Kellum and Kellum Family Medicine for providing this clinic within our community and see the hand of providence at work through its coincidence with our Holy Week celebration. In response to the high rate of vaccination compliance and success, the LTUMC Church Council met on Monday, March 22, 2021 to develop and adopt a phased plan to reintroduce in-person ministry opportunities at the church facility.
