BRYTE CHURCH
April Newsletter
Today is Good Friday! The day that Jesus would be put to an unfair trial, beaten, mocked and then killed on the cross. Why is it good if it’s the day that Jesus died? Because Jesus died to put an end to death! In other words, we can live forever because of what Jesus accomplished on the cross.
Jesus lived a perfect life and suffered and died on our behalf, taking the punishment for each and all of our sins on Himself. Because of Jesus' death, we can have open access to the Father and the promise of Heaven. With this news, then yes, it is indeed a good Friday.
But we have to be careful not to quickly look past the gruesomeness of the cross. If we avoid the blood, pain and weight of it all, it will be hard to appreciate the sacrifice that was made for us. This is the reason we take part in communion. The cross is not meant to make us feel guilt, but rather grateful. As you think about what Jesus did on the cross, pray a prayer of thankfulness that Jesus went down this dark road to show his love and save us. Thank Him that we did not have to all die on the cross. Thank Him that He went through all types of pain, that He can sympathize with us. Thank Him that the cross was not the end, that He is Risen and coming back again.
This is why we can call it Good Friday, and then we can prepare to celebrate the great victory of His resurrection this Easter Sunday.
