CHURCH NEWS

A message from Father Keith

Dear Friends

Great News! To celebrate Easter we are allowed to have 250 people in the church. When the church reaches capacity, we can have 250 people in the Emmaus Centre as well. The online booking has been amended to allow for the new numbers. All the health protocols remain in place:
  • Please hand in the Gate Entry Pass at the gate
  • Sanitize hands
  • Wear a face mask
  • Keep social distancing
  • Anyone who is ill or has covid-19 symptoms must stay at home.
We have spent 40 days in Lent preparing for Easter.  After remembering the Last Supper, the Passion and death of Jesus, we will celebrate his Resurrection, thinking of the perfect joy waiting for us when we and all creation are reborn with our resurrected Lord into the everlasting love of God.

This meditation reminds me of the power that the Resurrection has for us.

“From Ashes to Easter”

We stand at the foot of the cross and
Cannot help but wonder why
He undergoes such sacrifice and
Unspeakable suffering and humiliation.

As if reading our unspoken thoughts, he says,
‘Do you still not see or understand?
Nothing you can do, no sin you can commit
Will ever make me stop loving you.’

And with that he bows his head and dies.
Before daybreak we rise to walk
Alongside the mourning, myrrh-bearing women.

The stone removed, our sadness devolves into despair.
An empty tomb taunts us with renewed doubts.
Grave robbers? The owner? The wrong tomb? Or. . .

‘Why seek the living among the dead?’
He says our name.
He whom we thought dead now lives again
We rush back with Magdalene
To spread the Good News and henceforth
To live for him who died and rose for us. Amen. Alleluia.
  • By Joseph R. Veneroso, M.M., Catholic priest with the Maryknoll Society.

This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. May you all have a Blessed Easter.

God bless, Fr Keith

The Paschal Meal

The Paschal meal traditionally takes place on Holy Thursday but you may be participating in the Mass of the Lord's supper on Thursday so you are invited to celebrate the Paschal meal with your family anytime during Holy week.

Ideally, you need a minimum of 4 people to do the role-play. All the elements of the Passover meal such as the lamb, unleavened bread and Beitzah is explained in the booklet that has been produced for you. The booklet is available on our website and church app. Printed copies are available from the church foyer and church office.

Please send us photos of your families paschal meals that we can share with our community.

Easter activity for children

We would love you to do a project with the children over the Easter season. It covers from Palm Sunday all the way to Pentecost. Once the children have done the craft we would love to display it all round the church grounds at Pentecost, as well as on our Facebook page and this newsletter. It is a lovely craft to do as a family that can be displayed in your homes as well.

We would like to feature some pictures every week as we go through the season - so please take photos for us and send it to us. The actual wreaths would need to be handed in by Sunday  16 May 2021.

Dear Jesus

As we walk the way of the cross with You this weekend help us to reflect on our lives with the knowledge that it is our cross that You are carrying.

Forgive us the sins that have caused You this pain.  Help us to be filled with compassion for those who have wronged us. Teach us to forgive. We live in the hope of the resurrection and the promise of salvation.

It is through your generous donations that the Church of the Resurrection is able to offer a wide array of programmes and facilities. Thank you for your regular weekly donations; they make all the difference.

Since we are not collecting weekly donations in church, we are 100% reliant on the money that you give us via channels such as EFT or SnapScan. Every donation counts and is greatly appreciated.

If you're not signed up for dedicated giving but would like to continue to support the parish, you can make donations via snap scan or follow the link online.
