Spring is a time of new beginnings and new possibilities.  Last month, we, like many other businesses, surpassed our one-year response to the COVID-19 pandemic.   This past year has been a roller coaster ride of ups and downs that has brought challenges and opportunities. As we are finalizing our 1st quarter of 2021, we are all celebrating the warmer temperatures and new beginnings that usually occur this time of year but also new hope for tomorrow and the days that follow.

In February, St. MAM began celebrating its 49th year of serving our community.  We remain open for business, even though it looks a little different than it was prior to March 2020.  The need has not gone away and we call for your support to secure financial and tangible resources to help our families in crisis. Look at these Emergency Financial Assistance numbers from the previous 2 years in comparison to this year to date:

2019 = $11,669
 2020 = $13,694
2021 = $55.580

We want to thank the Metro Louisville Government and The Association of Community Ministries for their support in order to provide the financial resources necessary to keep our families with a roof over their heads and utilities connected during these uncertain times.  Please continue reading below if you know of someone who needs help with their LG&E bill.  We must rally together as a community to provide support, love, and resources to all of Jefferson County.

As I stated before, my staff and I, our Board of Directors, our volunteers are all committed to serving the basic needs of our neighbors no matter the season.

This is St. MAM, our community, YOUR neighbors.

~Many Blessings & Happy Easter!

There are currently over 41,000 households in Jefferson
County that have past due LG&E bills totaling over $21 million.

St. Matthews Area Ministries along with The Association of Community Ministries has launched a new online application dedicated to providing our neighbors in need with easy access to Metro Louisville’s COVID relief emergency assistance for LG&E customers in Jefferson County.

Households could be eligible for up to $1,000 in aid if they have a past due amount on their LG&E bill as the result of an economic hardship related to COVID-19 and if those past due arrearages occurred between March 16, 2020 and March 31, 2021.

To determine eligibility and begin this streamlined application process, heads-of-households can visit https://www.louisvilleministries.org/ and fill out the online form available there. Within a week they’ll hear back from one of our intake coordinators who can complete their application process.

If neighbors in need are not able to easily access the internet they can call Metro United Way’s 2-1-1 and their operators will provide the phone number for the community ministry that serves their neighborhood.

For those that may not know, as 2020 draws to a close, you still have an opportunity to deduct $300 from your taxable income for donations made to charities.  Previously, charitable contributions could only be deducted if taxpayers itemized their deductions.

For the purposes of this deduction, qualifying organizations are those that are religious, charitable, educational, scientific, or literary in purpose. The law changed in this area due to the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES).
