HIGHLIGHTS

Connecting with our Friends in Australia (16 & 18 Feb)

ITI Director T. Sasitharan (Sasi) delivered two seminars on the topic of culture and identity over Zoom to final-year students from ITI and Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), moderated by WAAPA Associate Dean of Performance Frances Barbe.

These seminars mark the seventh year of our ongoing partnership, and were organised in lieu of the WAAPA Study Tour to Singapore which could not take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Conversations on and Performances for The Substation

Sasi contributed to recent discussions about The Substation's vacation and eventual closure.

ITI alumni, students and staff have also been involved in The Substation’s SeptFest 2021 — presenting new and original works.

  • Regina Toon (‘19) and Wendy Toh (‘19) performed in The Last Chapter, a creative collaboration of artists led by faculty member Lim Chin Huat, which was featured in The Straits Times

  • Caroline Chin (‘18) restaged her Final Year Individual Project (FYiP), Waltz of the Flower featuring final-year student Marvin Acero Ablao, while Lina Yu (‘14) presented a new work, OEOS

Connecting with Youth through Sharing of Experiences (3 Mar)

ITI joined other educational institutions in the virtual edition of MOE’s E-Drama Careers Day. Faculty member Koh Wan Ching and alumna Tysha Khan (‘19) shared with O-Level and A-Level Drama students about actor training and career prospects in the arts.
Celebrating the Enrichment of the Contemporary Artist through Kutiyattam (1 Mar)

Sasi was invited to give a speech at the virtual celebration of Kutiyattam master teacher Gopalan Venu's 50th Navarasa Sadhana workshop, an actor-training methodology that was first developed in ITI and subsequently taught to more than 300 artistes.
"This is the great achievement of the Navarasa Sadhana. It gives us a sense of predictability and assurance in order to convey the truth of the emotions, and it enables the actor to achieve the highest form of his craft, which is vulnerability."
