Good Friday at SOTH

From Pastor Kristen

Friday, April 2 is the middle of the Three Days that lead up to Easter Sunday and the resurrection. On Good Friday, we remember the crucifixion of Jesus. For more information about the Three Days, visit The Three Days: traditions of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and the Vigil of Easter - Living Lutheran

Our Good Friday worship this year is the Stations of the Cross. It will available in two different ways on April 2, 2021. At noon, you will be able to access the recording on our YouTube channel and on our Facebook page. Or you can join the Zoom meeting at 7:00 pm, when we will watch the recording together.

This is an interactive prayer experience, therefore to fully engage you will need a few ordinary elements close by. Before you begin, gather the following:

  • a candle, and a way to light it
  • 3 medium pieces of paper
  • a pen, pencil, or other writing utensil
  • a small bowl of water
  • a salt shaker or a pinch of salt
You'll want to be seated comfortably and have a little room to move around.  Just before you begin to watch the service, light your candle and set it somewhere you'll be able to see it.

Stations of the Cross through St. Louis

Another Holy Week offering has been created by the Eastern Missouri Conference of the Central States Synod. It is a special Good Friday journey through the stations of the cross as they correlate to places in St. Louis, MO.

You may complete the stations in a time frame that makes sense for you and your companions. You might choose to take this journey on Good Friday or stretch it out over Holy Week. This is an experience that you can engage by driving to each location. Where possible, options for virtual engagement are also included with some of the stations. In addition to this guide, you will need a Bible, a journal, and a writing utensil.

You can download and/or print the devotions: STL_Stations_of_the_Cross.pdf
