(Clockwise from top left) Jeannie Wong, Chi Vang, Yee Thao and Seunghee Wie spoke about the surge of anti-Asian attacks at Sac State’s virtual Stop AAPI Hate event on March 30. This event comes after the mass shooting in Atlanta on March 16 that killed 6 Asian women, which also provoked national dialogue about anti-Asian racism.

“If you are surprised by the anti-Asian violence in Atlanta, Georgia, that happened two weeks ago, you haven’t been listening to us,” said Seunghee Wie, a Sac State professor.

On Tuesday, members of the Sac State AAPI community sat down and shared their experiences, new and old, in response to the recurring violence against Asian communities. This event comes in response to the mass shooting in Atlanta on March 16, where eight people were shot and killed, including six Asian women. The increase in hate crimes targeting Asian American and Pacific Islanders also provoked concern during the discussion.
