Has coverage for exploding-vape suits gone up in smoke?

The health risks associated with e-cigarettes and vape pens have been widely reported, particularly the outbreak of lung diseases linked to vaping, which peaked in September 2019. Further, a study by the Stanford University School of Medicine published in August 2020 indicated a link between vaping and increased risk of COVID-19, finding, among other things, that young people who had used e-cigarettes in the previous 30 days were almost five times as likely to experience symptoms of COVID-19.

‘Dirty look is enough’: Mornington Peninsula beach smoking ban steers clear of fines

Smoking will be banned at some of Mornington Peninsula’s most popular beaches and public areas in a bid to reduce the tens of thousands of cigarette butts littering the coastline. The beaches and foreshore areas at Rye, Safety Beach and Mount Eliza will be subject to the smoking bans from this month. The Point Leo Foreshore Reserve management committee said it was also considering a ban this week. The strategy to reduce smoking and litter is part of a six-month trial that is likely to result in a permanent ban.

Standard operating procedure for determination of nicotine, glycerol and propylene glycol in e-liquids

WHO TobLabNet SOP11 is a new analytical method and standard operating procedure (SOP) for measuring nicotine, glycerol and propylene glycol in e-liquids. It is a WHO Global Public Health Good, to support countries strengthen nicotine and tobacco product regulation and thus the implementation of Articles 9 and 10 of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC). This is in response to Member States’ request to WHO to provide technical leadership in tobacco product testing. The SOP operationalizes the recommendation of the WHO Study Group on Tobacco Product Regulation (TobReg).
