FREE Federal Seed Collection Training

Seeds of Success (SOS) is the national native seed collection program, led by the Bureau of Land Management in partnership with a variety of federal agencies and non-federal organizations. SOS’s mission is to collect wildland native seed for research, conservation, and ecosystem restoration.
On April 29-30, SOS is holding a two-day training event for BLM employees as well as interested members of the public. This Seed Collecting for Conservation and Restoration training will cover many topics, including the history and role of the Plant Conservation and Restoration Program and SOS, the importance and uses of native plants, an overview of the SOS seed collection protocol, seed biology and long-term storage considerations, native plant taxonomy review, field preparedness and post-collection seed care. Total 10 hours of training.
Email tuula@understoryinitiative.org (or hit "reply" on this email) if you're interested in participating and we will connect you to the right folks.

Native Plant Garden Tour & Plant Sale

The Jackson County Master Gardener Association is sponsoring a native plants garden tour in May. The tour will be both online and in-person this year, and feature beautiful native plant gardens from Ashland to Central Point, including the native plants demonstration garden at OSU Extension. Participate in one or both ways!
  • View videos of 13 local native plant gardens on the OSU Extension website starting about May 10.
  • Take an in-person tour of nine of the gardens on Saturday, May 22, if county Covid regulations allow.
The tour will also include a pop-up sale of native plants at the Extension on May 22, again, if regulations allow it. Tickets to this event are available at the OSU Extension website.
