FEATURED

New 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization approved

In 2020 we began the formation of a new organization to focus on technology education, community engagement, and to better meet the needs of our community. Fantastic news!  We have been approved as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Our mission: Develop and promote technology education in Northwest Washington. The 501(c)(6) organization will continue to represent our sponsor interests and hold major events throughout 2021.

TAG + Bellingham Codes Scholarship Fundraiser launched

TAG is proud to announce a collaboration with the Bellingham Codes community to launch the TAG + Bellingham Codes Scholarship Fundraiser. Our goal is to raise $5,000 in April to deliver a student scholarship for the 2021-2022 academic school year for each of our local colleges and university: BTC, NWIC, WCC, and WWU. See the TAG + Bellingham Codes Scholarship Fundraiser website to see how you can easily donate via Paypal or check, and create your own individual or business matching campaign.

TAG Annual Meeting 2021 Highlights

All candidates for our Board of Directors were confirmed by membership vote. Officer positions will be confirmed by the April Board of Directors meeting (April 22nd). The TAG Board of Directors for the next term (one year) are: Matt Bain, Bryan Brown, Ed Harri, Karl Hess, Jack Ingram, Brad Johnson, Ed O’Neill, and Meg Weber. A report of survey results will be provided to the TAG Board of Directors for review and consideration.

Fundamentals of Wireless Technology on April 6th

Join us for the 6th meeting of the TAG IT Community Group on Tuesday, April 6th, at 7pm via Zoom. Our guest speaker for April 2021 is Steve Stroh, a licensed HAM radio operator and electronics enthusiast. Steve will present the fundamentals of wireless communications using amateur radio principles as a foundation for understanding all wireless technologies, including newer technologies such as Bluetooth and wireless computer networking. The result? A general understanding of how all wireless technologies work!

Women in Tech Virtual Luncheon on April 7th

Join the TAG Women in Tech Community Group each first Wednesday of the month for our remote monthly hangout, a collaboration with NW Tech Women. We chat about our work, career development, and anything else that comes to mind. Build community and network connections that can bring joy and career momentum! We are inclusive of all people, but especially women and people of marginalized genders.

Data Science 101 on April 13th

Join us on April 13th for the monthly meeting of the TAG Analytics Community Group. Hear our speaker present "Data Science 101 - Building a model to predict churn in a specific product". We'll go pretty deep this month on how predictive models are actually built, and what some of the regular challenges that often come up look like. Justin Schoonover from Faithlife will walk us through the process from start to end - starting with a business problem and a hypothesis, then collecting, cleaning, and assessing data, and finally to actually building and assessing a model.

Power Grid and Cyber Risk on April 20th

Join the TAG Cybersecurity Community Group on April 20th @ 7 pm for our monthly meeting. Vivek Ponnada, Service Manager for GE in Vancouver, BC, will talk about the power grid and cyber risk in the second event of our mini-series on cybersecurity of electrical utilities and the power distribution grid. Vivek will start with a description of the power grid - diverse generation sources to transmission to distribution. Then he'll look at the reliability of the electricity network and interconnections in North America. Next he'll dive into cybersecurity risks in the electricity sector and touch on current regulations, then close with a look at predicting the future of electrical distribution.

Creative Capacity in STEM Education on April 27th

Join the TAG Engineering Group on April 27th at 7pm on Zoom for our April Meeting featuring our topic "Creative Capacity in STEM Education" presented by guest speaker Dr. Emily Marasco, Instructor, Schulich School of Engineering. As the global challenges facing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professionals continue to grow, postsecondary institutions and industry leaders are looking to recruit creative and diverse students capable of integrating technical knowledge with innovative solutions. In this presentation, Dr. Emily Marasco will discuss creative capacity and self-efficacy for encouraging engagement in STEM education.

Join us each Monday at 5pm on the TAG Community Hub (Discord) for a virtual TAG Happy Hour. Grab your favorite beverage and a snack and let's social distance apart together. All are welcome. Bring your friends!

Join us at the TAG Community Hub (Discord). Discord is a fantastic resource for communities with public and private text, audio, and video chat. We’ll stay connected while social distancing and embrace our new virtual selves.
