Dear friends and neighbors,

We hope you are well. Our community continues to stand up, speak out and act against hate crimes and violence. Over the weekend we joined events in Saratoga, San José and Milpitas. Our community continues to come together to stand in solidarity and unity against the continued hate crimes and violence against the AAPI community.

I have been incredibly moved by the AAPI youth that are organizing and taking action to ensure their parents and grandparents are safe in our community. Click HERE for more information resources. Thank you to all of our community partners that are joining the community in this fight, we have included a video from the Milpitas event. Hate has no home in our community.
BOS Actions On Anti-Asian/AAPI Violence and Racism
For far too long, even before this pandemic, the sting of racism has harmed Asians and the Asian American Pacific Islander community. This issue is incredibly prescient right now, and was discussed at both March meetings. We first began discussion during my second Board of Supervisors meeting on December 15 when we unanimously passed a resolution establishing a Hate Crimes Task Force. The resolution also acknowledged the increase in discrimination and violence against the AAPI community due to irrational fears and misinformation associated with the pandemic. This resolution was one of many steps along a long road to combat racism and hate crimes. Click HERE for San José Spotlight's recent coverage of our efforts

I would like to thank Supervisor Ellenberg for working with me to bring forward our resolution at the March 9 meeting. Our resolution focused this issue directly on the AAPI community, as we have seen the horrific rise in violence that has occurred in recent weeks and continues to occur despite our efforts to stand up to it. Click here to read the resolution. We then brought this item back at the March 23 meeting and expanded our efforts to take this matter seriously and provide the community the support we need to stop this hate. Click HERE to watch my comments from the March 23 meeting.

This is going to be one of the toughest issues we face, but I know if we face it together we will overcome. Click HERE for our Stop AAPI Hate resources and information. Also, here is a brief list of organizations where you can join others in our community taking action.

Join us on April 12th for a special Town Hall event with Rep. Ro Khanna! We will be hosting a COVID-19 Relief Update Town Hall and will be joined by various health officials for a discussion with you. Please click HERE to register for the event and visit our Facebook Event for updates.

COVID-19 Update
Right now the biggest challenges is obtaining more doses. Moving into the Orange Tier was a major achievement, but we still have ways to go. I joined with other leaders across Santa Clara County to call on the State of California to ensure that our families continue to receive the doses we need to save lives. We are building a capacity to deliver hundreds of thousands of doses each week, we just need our state and federal partners to help us get more. I will keep fighting for this every day.

Remember - if it's your turn - please make your appointment to get your vaccine. Please visit SCCFreeVax.org for vaccination eligibility or to make an appointment available in English, Español中文Tiếng Việt & Tagalog. Santa Clara County is under a “no wrong door” access to vaccines - which means you may register for a vaccine regardless of insurance or vaccination site. Plus, even if you live outside of the county but work within the county, especially our teachers and medical workers, you may receive your vaccine here.

March was Women's History Month and we want to take a moment to recognize and thank the amazing women of our D3 Team for their service. D3 celebrates women all year long. We hope you enjoy this collage of some of the incredible and phenomenal women that has made a positive impact and change for our communities. Can you name everyone in our collage? Visit our Facebook post to find out!

Thank you for being a part of this work with us. Please contuinue to stay safe and healthy, we're here to help anytime.

Warm regards,
