LYRIDS/KYKLOS FOLK DANCE FESTIVAL

co-organized by Burnaby and Kyklos International Folk Dancers

April 23 - 25, 2021 online via Zoom

Confused about registration? This a delightful video that explains everything!
Visit the Lyrids/Kyklos festival website for full details about the festival and to register!

Friday evening is a 3-hour dance party in which you can be involved in choosing the dance list!

Since we are not able to do an in-person festival this year, we decided to do it online via Zoom and we are co-organizing it with Kyklos International Folk Dancers from Portland, Oregon. Working with the Kyklos club has been an amazing collaboration and we have come up with an exciting event that you don't want to miss!

Festival highlights include:

The two primary teachers this year are Tineke & Maurits van Geel, teaching Armenian, International and Roma dances.  In addition, we have 8 dance, singing and music workshops Saturday and Sunday afternoons, with Ahmet Luleci teaching Turkish dances, Gergana Panova-Tekath teaching Bulgarian dances and Miamon Miller teaching a Balkan musical instruments workshop (All instruments are welcome).  As well, there will be Israeli dances, seated dances, Balkan singing and drumming workshops.

At mealtimes, watch culture talks and memorable videos from past Salt Spring Island & Lyrids Folk Dance Festivals with Dale Adamson and Rosemarie Keough (founder of the Salt Spring Island folk dance festival).

You won't want to miss our evening parties with our favourite recorded dances, and with Osem i Devet + friends playing recorded and live music.

Here's how you can get involved and participate:

 1. Register for the free festival Zoom link. While you are on the website, explore and find out more about the presenters, schedule and other festival information.

2. Vote for your favourite recorded dances for the evening party playlists. First, register for the festival, get your website user-id, and then vote. The most popular dances will be played at our Friday evening party on April 23rd and at the other evening parties.

3. We are creating a Festival Cookbook and encourage you to contribute your favourite recipes.  Please include a short blurb about your recipe (What meaning the recipe has to you).  You can send your recipe to Melanie Marchand at marchand@shaw.ca. As well, you can check out some of the recipes already sent to Melanie from festival committee members.

4. For those interested, we do need help especially with MC'ing the event. Training will be provided. Or, if you want to help in another way please let us know by emailing Chrisanne Pennimpede at cgpenn@uniserve.com or Lori Larsen at lorilarsen@shaw.ca.

5. As we mentioned, the Lyrids/Kyklos Folk Dance Festival is free. If you enjoy your experience with the festival and can afford to, please donate. After we cover event costs, donations will be distributed equally between the dance teachers, musicians, and performers. We have incentives for any donations.

If you have any questions or need help, feel free to email me at lyridsfolkdancefestival@gmail.com.
