DPA's Information Exchange - 3 April 2021

In this week's Info Exchange:

Vaccinations

- Information about vaccinations in Easy Read (PDF)
- Information about vaccinations in NZSL

Covid 19 vaccinations have now started for people who are in Group 2, which includes anyone aged 65+ or who has a relevant heath condition or disability in the Counties Manukau DHB area.

Also included are the disability workforce and disabled people who require daily support from multiple carers or who live in the community in a communal care environment and their immediate family carers.

A range of different options is being explored to ensure that vaccinations are offered to include a disabled persons "bubble"; (i.e. their support workers and immediate family). The Ministry is also considering options for delivering vaccines individually (for those in IF/Supported living situations) or collectively (i.e. for one or more group homes or individuals).

A range of community-based venues as potential vaccine sites are also being explored, including mobile clinics, community pop-ups, the marae and other community venues, including day programme sites.

If people feel more comfortable being vaccinated by their regular GP or nurse, this will also be an option.

People will be contacted to be offered a vaccination when it is available to them.

Rollout plan

The rollout plan focuses on prioritising protecting those most at risk of getting the virus or being harmed by it, while also reducing the chance of ongoing spread and future outbreaks.

The four main groups in the roll out plan are:

Group 1 - Border and MIQ workers, their household contacts and the people they live with
Group 2 – Frontline health and healthcare workers, people living or working in residential care, people aged 65+ or who have a relevant heath condition or disability in the Counties Manukau DHB area
Group 3 – Priority populations: People aged 70+, People 65+, People with underlying health conditions, disabled people
Group 4 – The rest of the population

Vaccinations will be offered to people in Group 3 from May.

If you want to find out when you can expect to be vaccinated, you can use this online tool.

Share your concerns, thoughts and feedback about the vaccination rollout

DPA has been involved in a number of discussions with the Ministry of Health and other organisations from the disability sector around vaccinations.

DPA Chief Executive Prudence Walker has also been put forward as the DPO Coalition representative for the Tātou Whaikaha group, a disability advisory group that feeds into the Immunisation Implementation Advisory Group (IIAG) with a specific focus on the vaccination rollout for disabled people.

We thank those people who have already come forward to us with issues around vaccinations to be raised with the Ministry of Health, and we will continue to raise any concerns that the community bring to us.

If you have any issues or concerns please email info@dpa.org.nz.

For individual medical advice, we recommend you discuss your personal situation with your GP or other medical professional.

DPA Bubble Hui - Thursday

Come along to our next Bubble Hui on Thursday April 8 and find out more about a collaborative campaign to increase income support.

At the end of last year, DPA was one of 75 organisations from across the country that came together behind an urgent call to increase income support rates and signed an open letter to Hon. Carmel Sepuloni and Hon. Grant Robertson.

At our Bubble Hui we’ll talk about what’s happening with the campaign and you can share your thoughts and stories about benefits and income support.

Max Harris, who’s working on the campaign, will join us and talk about how you can support the campaign as an individual within the wider collective.
