Newsletter April 2021

Dear EWM-NL members,

The Spring is well on its way and events are picking up, though naturally online.

Other than the news we share below, please check the LNVH newsletter here, where you can find among many interesting items the 2020 Monitor, the continuation of the Irène Curie Fellowship at TU/e, and several events on gender equality and diversity.

Also, have a look at the PWN newsletter here (in Dutch), announcing the commencement of the chairmanship of PWN by Prof. Richard Boucherie, the ICIAM prizes, the award for a MSc thesis in applied mathematics, math summer camps for pupils, and the announcement of the first Math Community Event.

In closing, we look forward to seeing you at the MC Scientific Days on 6 & 7 April (register now)! Until then, enjoy the holidays and the fine weather. Sincerely,
Maria Vlasiou

Submit your 2021 event for #May12

The May12 website for the 2021 edition is now available at may12.womeninmaths.org!

Are you organising an event connected to May 12, celebrating women in mathematics? Place your event on the global map.

You can propose your events of the year 2021 to be added using the form on the website. The event will appear on the interactive map after moderation. In  the countries where there are restrictions to gatherings because of the coronavirus crisis, organising collective events with physical presence might  be difficult this year. However, it remains possible to organise events differently and virtually.

The goal of the day is to inspire women everywhere to celebrate their achievements in mathematics, and to encourage an open, welcoming and inclusive work environment for everybody.

The May12 initiative and current website were funded in 2020 by a grant from the International Mathematical Union Committee for Women in Mathematics (CWM), as well as financial support from European Women in Mathematics and  the Association for Women in Mathematics. The May12 initiative brings together virtual or local events celebrating women in mathematics which take place during the month of May. The main focus are initiatives coming from within academia.

We are excited to inform you that on Monday, the 19th of April we are hosting our first virtual panel discussion on the topic “Women in Tech and Engineering”

The panelists are a group of engineers working in various functions at NXP Netherlands and who will share about their current jobs, their individual success stories and get inspired by how they made important career decisions.

PANEL GUESTS:
Clara Otero Perez – Senior Director System Innovations – Eindhoven

I am an upstream swimmer. I enjoy challenges and pursuing a career in STEM is challenging but also rewarding. "How can we reverse the global warming?" is a question that I dream to solve one day.

Een carrière in STEM is uitdagend maar dankbaar.
