School Announcements

Take the Intent to Return to In-person Survey. Your personal survey link will show up in your email.  Due date April 6thQuestions?

Reminder: On April 5-7, 6-12 students, except those enrolled in Special Education Intensive Service Pathways, will be learning asynchronously so that teachers can take training and prepare for the return of students on April 19.Students will return to remote learning on April 8-9. Learn more

Return to In-Person school: Update HERE
Seattle Education Association (SEA) and the district have agreed on 6-12th grade instructional models for remote and in-person learning for the remainder of the school year. These models will begin on Monday, April 19. 6-12th grade students served in Special Education Intensive Service Pathways will return on April 5.  The agreement prioritizes continuity of learning for all 6-12 students, while ensuring that students who choose to stay 100% remote remain in classes with current peers, content teachers. All students, in-person or remote, will continue to be engaged in four full days of instruction. Wednesdays will continue to be remote for students. Students that choose In-person will attend in-person classes two afternoons a week – either Mondays and Tuesdays or Thursdays and Fridays.

YEARBOOK

RHS ASR
Run for ASR Class Council! Each Class Council is made up of four members per graduating class that are elected by students in the class year they represent. Class Councils provide leadership for the class and plan programs that bring the class together and promote strong community connections. Apply for an ASR Appointed Position! Appointed positions are roles within the leadership class that are specialized based on the needs of the school. Along with this application, you will be scheduled for a virtual interview with Ms. Plesha, members of the Executive Council, and RHS staff members. Selections will be made after all interviews have been completed. Applying for an appointed position does not guarantee you a spot in the class. The Roosevelt PTSA Packs for Teens program provides families in need with food, toiletries, and cleaning supplies. Please help us to restock our pantry by shopping the pantry wish list.  Items purchased from the Target wish list will be shipped to pantry organizers and then brought to the pantry for distribution. A minimum purchase of $35 may be required for delivery. As an alternative, your donations through our secure site are greatly appreciated.

Contact Tracing at SPS
SPS is working to mitigate risks by creating a robust contact tracing program. This program works alongside our daily health screenings. If there is a case of COVID-19, we are prepared to limit exposure and stop the spread. Learn more

Reducing the risk of COVID-19 transmission is everyone's responsibility. Local, state, and federal health guidelines have informed the development of the SPS COVID-19 Health and Safety Protocols. SPS Website Redesign Update and Invitation to Test
SPS is running a usability study on a draft website redesign for our district and school websites. You are invited to participate in an online session where you will be asked to complete several short tasks on a basic outline of a webpage design. Your participation is important to us!

Language and Translation Supports
SPS has created web pages in each of our community's top six languages: Amharic, Chinese, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, and Vietnamese.

PTSA Race & Equity Committee
The Race & Equity Committee meets every other week to plan activities and discuss issues related to inclusion, diversity, and equity at RHS. The committee has rolled out a series of monthly conversations to encourage discussion and community building. The next one is April 21st. Washington State PTA Statement of Solidarity with Asian American Community
Washington State PTA (WSPTA) recognizes and acknowledges that all children are affected by violence against our fellow citizens. Last week's events in Atlanta add to a long history of abuse and inequity in our country. National PTA President Leslie Boggs stated, "National PTA condemns the shootings in Atlanta and other recent violence against Asian Americans. Our association stands firmly against racism in all forms and denounces all racial violence in our country. The Golden Grads Merit Scholarship Committee has extended their Teddy Roosevelt essay contest to the entire Roosevelt graduating class of 2021. Write a brief essay about Teddy Roosevelt and you could walk away with a cash prize of $1000!

T-Mobile Internship, fast-track training Full Stack Web Developer program for current high school juniors in the Seattle Public Schools. It is forecasted that there are 1.4 million unfilled jobs for Full Stack Web Developers in the USA, with an average starting salary around $58,000 in our region. Students Exploring Pharmacy (STEP) Summer Program
A program designed to inspire high school students as they explore pharmacy as a career option. Students engage in hands-on activities that provide an introduction to pharmacy practice and perspective on the numerous ways a pharmacist contributes to improving people’s health—in ways that go far beyond dispensing medications. Advocacy

Advocacy Submission Process Open-Grassroots Advocacy. Powered by PTA.
Any PTA member is encouraged to submit an issue, resolution, or legislative principle that addresses concerns that affect children on a state-wide level. As a grassroots association, we rely on our members to provide the priorities that we will advocate for at the state level and within our communities. Washington State PTA Legislative Report
Here’s the status on some bills of note:
  • E2SHB 1139, which would require testing and remediation of lead in drinking water, passed out of the Senate education committee without amendment and is now in the Senate Ways & Means Committee.
  • ESHB 1273, which would require schools to supply free menstrual products in bathrooms, passed out of the Senate education committee and is now in the Senate Ways & Means Committee.
  • EHB 1342, which would eliminate lunch co-pays for students who qualify for reduced-price lunches, passed out of the Senate education committee and is been passed to Rules Committee for second reading
  • ESSB 5044, which would require professional development on equity, cultural competency, and dismantling institutional racism, has passed the Senate and has now been referred to Rules 2 for review

Parenting to Embrace Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Wednesday, April 21, 5:30 PM, FREE

Join educator Monique Marshall for the fifth installment of the Bush School’s virtual Parent University series. Learn how to raise the next generation to be more culturally competent and confident than many adults are. Monique will invite us to think about how we were brought up and offer a healthy and more holistic approach to raising our children. This interactive workshop is designed to invite dialogue and offer a framework for equity and inclusion work at home and in school. Advanced registration is required, but there is no cost associated with your ticket.

Student Meals
Students can pick up breakfasts and lunches Monday-Friday, 11:15AM-1:15PM at 40 area schools, including Bryant Elementary, Sand Point Elementary, Eckstein Middle School, Nathan Hale High School, and Olympic Hills Elementary. Need Immunizations?
Is your child behind on immunizations, but you are concerned about going into a clinic?  Roosevelt Teen Health Center is offering car visit vaccinations (sorry, no COVID vaccines yet). Please use this link to contact us or call 206-527-8336.

Guide for Urgent Care
Not sure whether you should take your child or teen to urgent care or the emergency room: Seattle Children’s has a new guide in English, Spanish and Arabic. Urgent care doesn't do well visits, sports physicals, or return to play after concussion. You can contact your primary care provider, or the teen health center will gladly assist you with those services. Call to make an appt. 206-527-8336 or go to this link to register.

Roosevelt School-Based Health Center
The Neighborcare Health Center at Roosevelt offers both remote and scheduled, in-person visits to students. Need help with Schoology or Teams? How-to videos, including translated versions, are now available. These videos will teach you how to log in, navigate your student’s school courses, submit assignments, and more.

 

Volunteer

Earn Community Service Hours in our own community by volunteering every Sunday from 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm, NE 65th Street under the I-5 bridge. Volunteers serve home cooked meals. Service includes setting-up/taking down tables and chairs, serving food, separating trash/recycle or handing out toiletries. Are you in? Volunteers assist with packing premade non-perishable boxes, shopping for customers, sorting donations, restocking shelves and helping maintain a clean and safe grocery store.

Volunteer to Connect With Older Adults
RHS students looking for a volunteer opportunity can enroll in the Sages and Seekers program. This program pairs students with older adults to have conversations about life and work to dismantle the stigma around aging.
