"Connecting with others during difficult times makes the trials more bearable."
- John Townsend
As COVID-19 marks a year since the outbreak first appeared, Palestine: Sports for Life (PS4L) continues to cultivate ways in promoting quality education and connectivity. The importance of staying connected during a time where social distancing is a necessity is difficult. However, with a drive to make a change, PS4L collaborated with different institutions to make virtual and in-person (following safety protocol) events possible. Follow our latest updates through Facebook and PS4L website.

PS4L Celebrates Women's Day
In celebration and awareness for International Women's Day, PS4L trainer, Yumon Masri, conducted a sports session discussing the rights of women and the negative influence of gender biases. By using fun sports activities, Yumon highlighted important topics like women in education, women in the labor market, and women in sports. Check out the video below to see the session and activities in action.

PS4L advocates and promotes the right of women to pursue an education, participate in the labor market, and follow their aspirations. Through our programs, we challenge gender biases and inequality in hope of attaining a better future for women in Palestine.

PS4L Director as a Guest Speaker on TEDx
On May 20th of this year, our extraordinary PS4L Director Tamara Awartani will be a guest speaker in a TEDx event dedicated to Palestinian women. Ten women will tell their influential stories of starting a change within their community. Stories of hardships that were overcome with success by remaining resilient and dedicated towards a cause they believe in. We are excited for more Palestinians to get to know and hear from the first Palestinian women basketball player to play professional in Jordan and Germany as well as the first Palestinian to specialize and pursue her PhD in the academic field of 'Sports for Development' - Tamara Awartani. Save the date to celebrate and be inspired by ten women of Palestine at the A.M. Qattan Foundation in the city of Ramallah, Tedx Al-Manara Square.

Renad Reyad Attending
1st Coaches for Women's Football Club
Workshop
PS4L sports and life skills trainer, Renad Reyad, participated in the three-day 'Technical Workshop for Coaches of Women's Football Club'. Two of the sessions were in-person by the city of Jericho while the last session was held online. This technical workshop is the first of its kind for coaches of women's football clubs in Palestine with the aim of teaching coaches how to guide their players in maintaining professionalism on the grounds and how to organize players tactfully during the game. Through the techniques and principles, this workshop also aims to increase football professionalism while representing Palestine in the Middle East as well as in international tournaments. Within this three-day workshop, the topic was primarily focused on the principles of defense.  In the coming days, there will be further training on the principles of attacking and other aspects of football.

Within the first day of the workshop, Renad took part in two discussions, titled "The Philosophy of Play" and "Principles of Defense". On the second day, she took part in a lecture titled "Mental Preparation for Players" which then included practical exercises and implementations. On the third and final day, the session was conducted virtually, where "The Play Model" was discussed. Through the Play Model, coaches learned about the different shapes of stadium's likely to be encountered, and how to order and arrange the position of players according to the defense lineup.

We are proud of our PS4L trainer, Renad Reyad, and are excited to see her implementing these principles and strategies while teaching her players. This program was organized by the Palestine Football Federation.
Upcoming Exchange with Brazil
We are excited to announce that PS4L will do a second round of exchanges in collaboration with the NGO streetfootballworld in the coming months. Five PS4L students had completed an exchange in the month of December with students from Johannesburg, South Africa. This time around, PS4L will do an exchange with Fundção Eprocad in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Fundção Eprocad is an impactful organization that runs after-school programs by using football. Through their football programs, they provide additional education around computer science and healthy living. We are excited for PS4L students in participating in these new rounds of exchanges. In a time where social distancing is getting the best of our days, these exchanges are in hopes of taking our Palestinian youths' mind-off of the pandemic by meeting students from across the word to simply connect.
