Art Jeopardy
This painter wanted recognition, title and prestige above all. He was denied entry to a noble Spanish order due to common heritage. In order to get confirmed into nobility he got approval from the Pope. To win approval he painted a famous portrait of Pope Innocent X. To convince the Pope to allow him to paint his portrait, he first painted his servant and painting assistant, Juan de Pareja. Scroll down to see the answer (or question!).

MAA Zoom meeting, April 21, 7 - 9 pm
Jan McCollum's dioramas - an amazing tour of a unique art form.
Years ago, Jan McCollum helped a friend build a dollhouse, and his passion for creating small scale pieces began. He became fascinated with the never‑ending possibilities. Jan has combined this interest in dioramas (miniature scale three-dimensional models) and his love for railroads (both replicas and the real ones!). With this, Jan created a number of train and railroad themed dioramas. He has built models for collectors, enthusiasts and hobbyists – especially railroad bridges. Jan was commissioned to build some model bridges for the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburg for a large diorama.
He has probably made at least 50 original models and countless kits over 30 years. During the meeting, we will see several of Jan’s creations including a 1/4" scale diorama of Mansfield Depot set in the 1950's - where he grew up. Be sure to tune in to this fascinating demonstration!

Jerry Madara has two 200 ml tubes (about 6 oz) of Windsor Newton yellow ochre water based oil paint sent to him by mistake. Jerry's Artarama said he can keep it to donate to artists. If anyone wants one or both tubes they are welcome to them. Email Jerry if you're interested.

And the answer, or question, to Art Jeopardy is:
Who is Diego Velazquez?

You can look at a picture for a week and never think of it again.
You can also look at the picture for a second and think of it all your life.
