When I arrived in Hestand, it was like going back in time to see the horse and buggies and the “pilgrimage” attire they dress in. After having to ask a man walking for directions, I finally arrived at the little house to see the doctor. He shined a bright light into each eye several times while looking through a magnifier of some type. Although I had high expectations for him already, I was still amazed at how he could look into my eyes and REALLY see me. Everything he said was spot on. The crazy thing was that the appointment was free, but there was a donation box in the room. After, I was given the opportunity to purchase the natural remedies he prescribed for me if I wanted.
My visit there sparked my curiosity about the Amish, so I immediately started researching their culture. That night I even rewatched the old TV show, "Breaking Amish". Anyone else remember that show? It was on TLC back in 2012. I loved being able to experience their creative approach to medicine & way of life. I think it's so important and FUN to learn about other cultures.
If you are ever wanting to try a different form of medicine, or just wanting to go on a new adventure, I definitely recommend seeing Reuben.
