Help SORBA reach their goal to receive a matching grant from the Outride Fund so that they can provide a complete bike park at Walker Park. The Outride program provides evidence-based cycling programs to improve social, emotional, and cognitive health all across the United States. Having a complete bike park in Athens allows for a more diverse cycling community that is friendly to all ages and skill levels. Keep an eye out for an interview in next month's newsletter with more details!

Athens-Clarke county wants your input on the two corridor improvement projects below, take the linked surveys before April 18th to let them know if you want connectivity and safe places to ride!


Atlanta Highway

  • 4.6 miles long from Monroe highway to the Middle Oconee River
  • Connects points west of downtown and the University
  • One of the region's largest commercial corridors
  • Major commuter corridor
  • Daily traffic and zoning encourage commercial investment

Lexington Highway

  • 4.1 miles long from Loop 10 to the SE Clarke Park 
  • Portion of a 7-mile corridor that extends into Oglethorpe county 
  • Main connector to a variety of goods, services, and institutions
  • Home to several churches and large parks 
  • Anchored by a few large-scale land uses such as the Athens-Ben Epps Airport and government offices

How the ‘Budget-Bike Trap’ Creates Inequality in NYC

In this piece, Josh Bisker, the founder of a bike co-op identifies a key gap in cycling equity. He calls it the “the budget-bike trap” and cuts to the chase by pointing out that we already have a "powerful approach for fixing it: nonprofit community bike shops, better known as bike co-ops. Bike co-ops help people escape and avoid the budget-bike trap by creating avenues for bike education and employment in frontline communities, keeping budget bikes operational for riders who lack access to repair services, and supplying affordable, high-quality bikes."
