An Newsletter to Everyone on the PMRC Newsletter List

Online, Together connects United Church people to United Church online events and offerings during COVID-19 physical distancing measures.

NOURISHING AND BEING COMMUNITY
On Thursday, April 8, at 12.30 p.m. on the eve of the Liberal National Convention, The United Church of Canada will be inviting Canadians across the country to light a candle in support of a guaranteed livable income, often referred to as the guaranteed basic income. The COVID-19 pandemic has heightened the importance of health and well-being of the entire community and exposed the cracks in the current economic situation. Building on the positive experience of the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit (CERB), this is a unique opportunity to make an important policy change to ensure greater income security for all Canadians. Details here.
Spiritual Practice Alternatives (S.P.A.) welcomes you Tuesday nights at 7 pm via Zoom. During the pandemic, our offerings include:
  • Mindfulness Meditation – offers a variety of core mindful practices such as the body scan, walking meditation, and meditation poetry. The group closes with a contemplative meditation on Sunday’s lectionary reading at 8 pm.
  • Discussion Group – The “On Our Faith Journey” group engage in thoughtful discussion in the areas of Progressive Christianity through book and video study. The group generally concludes at 8:30 pm.
Details here. For more information, contact us at office@northwood-united.org.
Theological Foundations for Affirmation
An Evening with Austen Hartke, Author of "Transforming: The Bible and The Lives of Transgender Christians"
Thursday, April 8, at 6:30pm PDT / 7:30pm MDT

As people of faith, faith leaders, and ministry personnel, we have to be prepared for conversations about affirmation with people in our communities. What should we say when someone asks us about the biblical texts used against people of different sexualities and genders? How can we be well-versed in the variety of theological positions, while also standing firm in our support for the most marginalized people in our churches? Join author and organizer Austen Hartke for a crash course that covers the biblical "clobber passages" and current models of Christian understanding around sexuality and gender, and gain a sense of the way the Gospel can actually feel like good news for our LGBTQ2S+ siblings. More about Austen here.

Whether you have been in ministry for decades or are just curious about how these topics affect you and others, you are warmly invited.

Registration is FREE and required to obtain Zoom link.
