JETAARM has decided to postpone our Jeopardy night in light of the recent event in Boulder, Colorado. We know that many of our alumni call Boulder their home, and wish to allow everyone time to grieve and process this horrific act. Below, you can find ways to support the families of the incident.
Statement on Violence in Boulder and Atlanta
In the past two weeks, our country has been rocked by two terrible tragedies - first in Atlanta, and now in Boulder, Colorado. Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and their communities.
In this difficult moment, we ask our fellow JET alumni and friends to join us in drawing on the lessons and values of their experiences in Japan: build community, foster relationships, and work together to make the world a place that values diversity. Our Asian and Asian American communities especially need our support in this moment. We will speak out against bigotry and hate when we encounter them. We will continue to support the Asian American community in whatever way we can.
The incident in Boulder, Colorado, opens wounds from last week that have barely begun to heal; it is close to home for our JETAA chapter and individual members. In Japan we were asked to represent Americans' best qualities: to be friendly, outgoing, driven, and innovative. Now we must continue to uphold those ideals to help each other heal and bring out the best of those around us.
