Daffodil Delights and the Moms in Your Life!

Is there anything more representative of spring than daffodils? They are sure to brighten anyone's day!! And if you haven't been to Heather Farm Parks in Walnut Creek recently you should....you can infuse a little of spring straight into your system just by being there!
Some treats in store from the April newsletter for you...The latest and greatest is filled with action pictures, smiles and opportunities for Mother’s Day coming up in May. Gift vouchers for our mini sessions make for wonderful Mother’s Day gifts, we know all mothers love pictures even if their kids don’t like them taking them so why not make it official and give the mother in your life the gift she really wants! I'm sure that's what the girls in the picture above were talking about ;-)

The spotlight this month comes from a wonderful local financial management company - LFS Wealth Advisors. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to photograph the whole team and I have to say it was a pleasure to meet them all. Hear how it all got started from the owner below.
The session highlights section is often planned in advance, sometimes a whole year in advance....yikes! For April though I was so excited last month to photograph two beautiful senior students in yellow flowers I had to share the pictures with you straight away. So hopefully you’ll forgive me if I share them again next spring. Just like New York...'So good they shared it twice!!'
My own camera fun is combined with 'for the photographer in you' this month and makes up for the current session highlights because they are pictures from way back in the UK around 10 years ago. Check them out, they include one of a gorgeous historical building with beautiful arches.
Green hills abound for the panoramic passion, we are seeing them everywhere right now so here’s a picture to look back on when the heat turns the hills brown again.
Finally the quote is from a seriously classy lady and I’m not sure anything else needs to be said check it out at the end.

Photography and Video Business Media Packages

I started in a one-man office. As I began to get busy, I had to hire staff to help out. This is before internet and Linkedin, so I put an ad in San Francisco Chronical looking for a staff; and I ended up finding a wife of nearly 30 years and mother of our two lovely children. When we finally decided to get married, and we were working together at the time, we registered at City Hall at lunch break and...get this, returned back to work afterwards.

Spend 10 minutes driving around the hills along the 680 corridor and you can’t fail to see some of the spectacular yellow mustard flower fields! The more the better!! And if you really want a treat...try to see them close to sunset or sunrise! You can also see them just around the corner from the Diablo entrance at Macedo Ranch! For those who don’t really like walking...I promise it’s less than a 10 minute walk on the hill!
A friend suggested recently that the best flowers are from the tilled fields...I guess that makes sense. Turning over the earth provides a great start for the new growth!
Yellow flowers also makes for some of the most spectacular pictures and I was lucky enough to be working with two gorgeous models who are graduating from local high schools this year! Golden hour, pretty dresses and even prettier girls (cousins) made for beautiful pictures! Thank you for choosing me to capture a few pictures from your final year in High School. I wish you both the best for your new and exciting adventure after school! I know you will be close forever and just love the playful friendship you have!
During photography sessions, we are very careful and always have your safety in mind. All photography is carried out wearing a mask for your safety and we always try to be six feet away (long lens). Sessions are only conducted outdoors at the moment!

When I took these photographs of ivy on our neighbors house in England, bursting with color I experimented with creating patterns and shapes with camera movement. It’s taken me about 10 years to figure out that there’s a name of what I was experimenting with....ICM - intentional camera movement. I don’t know why I’m surprised, I guess there is a name for everything now! I still love the effect and would encourage you to give it a go. Not only because you might create some interesting pictures that you like, but also because it is a great lesson in Shutterspeed and how it is critical to taking control of your camera!
These images were all taken with the Shutterspeed at 1/20th and aperture at f18, but are different because of the varied speeds of movement of the camera.
Panning is generally used as the motion to create images like these and if you want to be very specific, you can use a tripod to ensure that your panning is all in the same plane. Alternatively, a monopod helps to control and movement and avoid jerky exposures. Another attraction is that...there are no rules...just give it a go and see what you like, speed up the movement or slow it down and of course play with the settings to see what you get! Just writing this is making me feel like I want to get out and do a bit more!!
The beach and water generally makes a great subject for playing around with this and the best time is either sunrise or around sunset, when the colors are at their most vibrant and you can get lovely blues, yellows and oranges to work with.
