First week back at a glance...

Monday 12th April - Kingfishers swimming kit
Tuesday - Kingfishers Stone Age Day come in outdoor games kit.

Easter Fun!

What a fantastic selection of decorated eggs we had! The teachers had a very tricky job choosing the winners!
This morning we went to roll our eggs down the hill at the village hall, there was some serious rolling tactics going on, with not only length of roll but also accuracy!
The winners are listed below and they have all won an Easter egg very kindly donated by our fantastic PTFA. Every child has also been given a Cream Egg for taking part!
A great day! Happy Easter to you all.

Happy Retirement Mr B!

What a celebration it has been! Thank you to all of you who attended the Zoom celebration, it was lovely to see so many people. Below is a link to the video we played.
A video we made including lots of well wishes from some of his current and former collegues and pupils.
A big farewell song!
The traditional Arkholme whole school Conga!

A Bible Verse for Arkholme - Competition

I have now completed the consultation on a new Bible verse for our school. Thank-you very much to all the children, staff and governors that have contributed to this process. We are delighted to reveal that Jeremiah chapter 29, verse 11 will be our school Bible verse:

‘God has great plans for me.’

Jeremiah chapter 29, verse 11

We want to display this verse around school but we need your help. We would like you to create a piece of artwork that reflects this verse. There is a picture below to inspire you! You could use pastels, paint, collage, or a photograph to create your artwork but it must include the Bible verse above. Please bring your completed artwork into school after Easter. Prizes will be awarded to all artists!

What has been happening in the classroom?

We’ve had a fun week in Puffin class, as always! This week we’ve been learning about repeating patterns - we’ve learnt the pattern parrot song and made repeating pattern ties to wear at Mr B’s retirement assembly! In phonics we’ve been recapping some phase 3 sounds and we’ve been so impressed with everyone’s reading and writing of words using these sounds. We have finished our week with an Easter egg hunt. Two Easter bunnies came to visit and took us on an egg hunting adventure this afternoon. Have a lovely Easter holiday everyone and we look forward to welcoming you back for the summer term in a few weeks time. We will be starting a Julia Donaldson topic so if you have any of her books have a look over the holidays we would love to know which are your favourites.
The Robins have worked super hard this week on their stories inspired by The Tiger Who came to Tea. I set them the challenge of completing their stories in a short time and the rose to the challenge producing some excellent pieces of writing. We free have also been demonstrating some excellent perseverance skills in maths as we tried to build 3D shapes from straws and plasticine. It was very tricky but with a bit or perseverance and teamwork, we got there in the end! We have been focusing on RE and the Easter story this week, and we have made Easter baskets that retell the main events in the Easter story. We also had a lovely walk looking for signs of spring where we found daffodils, new buds and gorgeous spring lambs. Keep looking over the holidays as more signs of spring will appear. Have a lovely Easter break Robins class 🙂
This week the children have enjoyed learning about the Easter story. They have made delicious hot cross buns and designed Easter cards and baskets. In English, they have been working on word class recognition and reading comprehension skills and they have continued their multiplication and division work in maths. They have also enjoyed meeting Miss Hannah Roberts, who will join us as a student teacher after Easter.

It has been a week of sweet treats, with a terrific Easter Egg Hunt designed by Daniel and Mrs Wyatt, cakes to celebrate Oliver's birthday, baking with Mrs Cunliffe and chocolate chicks for all from Daisy! I think at this rate, we will have to increase our mile-a-day challenge to accommodate for all our excesses when we return to school!

After Easter, Kingfishers will be swimming on Monday afternoons and PE lessons will be on Tuesdays. Please send the children with their swimming kit on the first day back. They can still wear their games kit to school on Monday as it makes getting changed at the pool a little easier.

Have a fun-filled Easter break everyone!
Mrs Burgess and Mrs Cunliffe.

Dear Parents this is my final newsletter before I hand over the reins to Mrs Wheatley's, experienced and capable hands.

I would like to thank you for entrusting your children to me, it has been a pleasure for me to teach them, identify their strengths and watching their personalities develop.  It has been especially gratifying to have found the children so eager and well prepared to continue with their learning this term, considering the considerable disruption they have endured during the last 12 months.

Thank you for your support over many years for some of you and only weeks for others. I have been overwhelmed by your generosity in gift and words.

Thank you and wish you all my very best wishes for LAMB. (life after Mr 😎)

MrB.
