Upcoming intersection closure at Sylvan Way SW near Southwest Precinct

Roadway, sidewalk, and curb upgrades continue throughout the corridor

Construction started in June 2020 and is expected to continue through 2022.

Traffic detours during the Sylvan Way SW intersection closure
Sylvan Way SW between the Southwest Precinct and the Arco gas station will be closed beginning as early as March 31. This closure is required for us to demolish and upgrade the roadway at this intersection.

People driving are encouraged to detour to SW Orchard St. This closure will continue into April. Thank you for your patience as we work to make Delridge Way SW a safer and more accessible corridor for all users.

    • Sylvan Way SW between Southwest Precinct and Arco gas station
    • SW Thistle St (east side) (temporarily re-opened while we complete work at SW Trenton St)
  • Construction throughout the corridor
    • Landscaping is beginning throughout the corridor and will continue into April
    • Final landscaping for the planting strips and roadway median will occur late 2021/early 2022
  • Zone A (West Seattle Bridge to SW Findlay St)
    • RESCHEDULED: Roadway and electrical upgrades on SW Hudson St between Delridge Way SW and Puget Blvd SW (east side)
    • Sidewalk upgrades on the east side between SW Hudson St and SW Brandon St continue into next week
  • Zone B (SW Findlay St to north of SW Orchard St)
    • Roadway demolition and paving between SW Juneau St and SW Graham St near Louisa Boren STEM K-8 continues
    • Roadway demolition moves to the west side near businesses at SW Findlay St
    • Sylvan Way SW closing at Delridge Way SW beginning March 31
    • Sidewalk work continues between SW Graham St and SW Orchard St (east side)
  • Zone C (SW Orchard St to SW Roxbury St)
    • Upgrades at 21st Ave SW and Delridge Way SW continue
    • Intersection upgrades continue at SW Kenyon and SW Holden St
    • Roadway paving between SW Thistle St and SW Cloverdale St continues (east side)
Work happening this week and next week
For all work described below, residents and businesses will be notified in advance of any anticipated impacts. Dates for construction activities scheduled are subject to change depending upon weather.
  • Zone A (West Seattle Bridge to SW Findlay St)
    • Bus stop continue near SW Hudson St
      • Demolition and paving will continue into early April
    • Continued demolition and paving on Delridge Way SW (east side)
      • Demolition and electrical upgrades on SW Hudson St between Delridge Way SW and Puget Blvd SW have been rescheduled
        • We are currently working on curb ramps in this area
        • Roadway demolition and paving has been rescheduled. We will renotify residents in advance of this work happening.
      • Sidewalk upgrades between SW Hudson St and SW Brandon St on Delridge Way SW to begin as early as March 29
        • Demolition is expected to last approximately one week
        • Sidewalks will be poured in early April
        • Curb extensions (curb bulbs) will be installed at Puget Blvd SW as part of this work
          • These upgrades will continue into mid-April
          • Puget Blvd SW will remain open during this work, but people driving may experience temporary access restrictions during upgrades
  • Upcoming demolition and paving on Delridge Way SW (west side)
    • Roadway upgrades on the west side of SW Hudson St between Delridge Way SW and 25th Ave SW have been rescheduled
      • Full depth asphalt demolition and paving will occur where the pipework occurred last year
      • This work includes demolition, regrading, and paving
      • The schedule for this work remains tentative. We will share more details about this work soon.
         
  • Zone B (SW Findlay St to north of SW Orchard St)
    • Bus stop upgrades happening at SW Holly St
      • We recently started trenching the roadway to complete electrical upgrades in preparation for the new RapidRide bus stop at this intersection
      • These upgrades will continue through mid-April
    • Continued demolition and paving on the east side of Delridge Way SW in Zone B
      • Roadway demolition between SW Juneau St and SW Graham St near Louisa Boren STEM K-8 continues
        • Demolition continued throughout this week and the first of several concrete pours has begun
        • We will pour a portion of the roadway on Saturday, March 27
        • We will restore access to SW Juneau St on the east side for students entering the building from this entrance
        • Access to the parking lot will be maintained during this work for loading and unloading
        • We will continue working in this area for several weeks to pour and cure concrete
      • Sidewalk and driveway upgrades continue throughout Zone B
        • We will temporarily restrict access to driveways as we rebuild the sidewalks and driveways in this area
        • Properties will be notified in advance of the closures
        • Closures will last approximately 3-5 days, but may last longer depending upon weather
        • We will continue working at 22nd Ave SW and work our way south towards SW Holly St
    • Continued demolition and paving on the west side of Delridge Way SW in Zone B
      • Demolition and paving between SW Findlay St and SW Juneau St to begin the week of March 29 and continue into early April
        • Properties will be notified in advance of this work happening
        • Once this work is complete, we will move south between the Longfellow Creek Greenspace and SW Graham St
      • Sylvan Way SW intersection closure beginning March 31
        • This intersection will be closed between the Southwest Precinct and the Arco gas station
        • Demolition will last between 3-5 days
        • Paving will occur the following week
           
  • Zone C (SW Orchard St to SW Roxbury St)
    • Roadway upgrades at 21st Ave SW and Delridge Way SW continue into April
      • Paving in this section is scheduled to start soon
      • We will remain in the area for several more weeks to upgrade stormwater utilities
      • In the coming weeks, we will demolish and repave the east side of Delridge Way SW to prepare the area for a new RapidRide bus stop
      • 21st Ave SW will remain local access only during this closure. Please use caution when navigating the area.
    • Ongoing intersection upgrades at SW Holden St and SW Kenyon St
      • SW Holden St intersection upgrades continue
        • Thank you for your patience during this work!
      • SW Kenyon St intersection upgrades continue
        • The last phase of paving has been rescheduled. We will notify affected residents closer to this work starting. 
    • Upcoming curb and sidewalk upgrades on the west side of Delridge Way SW in Zone C
      • We will continue upgrading curbs and sidewalks between SW Holden St and SW Kenyon St
      • Roadway, sidewalk, and curb ramp demolition near SW Thistle St scheduled to begin in April
        • In mid-April, we will begin prepping the area for southbound bus stop upgrades
        • We will provide a date closer to this work starting
    • Electrical and roadway upgrades on the east side between SW Thistle St and SW Cloverdale St continue
      • SW Cloverdale St is closed for upgrades during this work
      • Roadway and sidewalk paving will continue into next week. Thank you for your patience during construction.
    • Upgrades near SW Trenton St continue
      • SW Trenton St is closed at the intersection with Delridge Way SW to complete roadway, sidewalk, and curb ramp paving in the area
      • This closure will remain in place for a few weeks. SW Thistle St has reopened for the duration of this closure. 
      • Residents with driveway impacts will be notified in advance

What to expect during paving and construction
  • Work hours are typically between 7 AM and 7 PM but can last until 10 PM without a noise variance
  • You may experience temporary access restrictions in and out of driveways on Delridge Way SW during active demolition
  • Loud hammering, dust, and vibrations
  • During active demolition, onsite crews will be able to provide access to emergency vehicles of for people leaving their homes for emergencies
  • If you need your car in a timely manner, we recommend parking on side streets. Otherwise, please be prepared for delays and plan to connect with crews onsite to coordinate access.
  • Steel plates or a gravel ramp will be placed to provide access to the driveways outside of active work hours
  • Up to one week of driveway restrictions as concrete cures directly in front of your property. We will deliver notices to any properties with this impact.
  • Vehicle lane shifts around work zones
  • Temporary bus detours and bus stop relocations. Please contact Metro for more information. 
We will be installing new curb bulb extensions at select intersections on Delridge Way SW. People driving throughout the corridor should practice caution when driving near these new bulbs. The extension above has been installed at SW Edmunds St and painted yellow to allow pedestrians to safely cross Delridge Way SW. 
REMINDER: Businesses along the corridor are open during this work. Please follow posted detour signs as you visit these businesses.
At the City of Seattle, we are continuing to follow guidance from federal, state, and local leaders and our public health partners regarding COVID-19. To keep our crews and the public safe, we have required all contractors to submit updated jobsite Health and Safety Plans to ensure that they comply with the safety and social distancing requirements in the Governor’s Order.
