Community Responsiveness and Adaptability…

Over the past months we have dealt with COVID19, natural challenges of drought and bushfires, and now a flood that has significantly impacted on Chrysalis School life.
We are deeply aware that this has not been an easy time for Chrysalis families to engage in the schooling options that have been offered and we loudly appreciate the way in which the entire Chrysalis Community has rallied together and supported each other. The courage, adaptability, responsiveness and creativity that has been shared during these times has been truly inspiring and we truly hope that through a strong community response we can continue to provide a rich and inspiring Chrysalis curriculum, even within these newfound locations. Please read on for more information.

The Learning Will Go ON…
Praise be to Soli, Cath and Julie - I have greatly admired the calm and dedicated manner in which these talented teachers have continued to deliver quality education to their treasured students over the past two weeks.
Despite having to change church halls three times, these amazing teachers pack up and unpack and ensure that by the time their students arrive their classroom, no matter what shape it comes in, is a place for learning. I have watched how these teachers lovingly hold their students, which has facilitated the amazing way the students have adapted to learn in all their different situations. The benefits of the strong routines and rhythms in Steiner Education and the sense of excitement brought to all learning keeps the students engaged and learning wherever they might be.
Although we all long to be back at our beautiful campus, I have reflected on how this current natural disaster is helping the students to be adaptable and build resilience. As adults we all know how both these characteristics are so vital in life.
Also, a special thanks to the teachers' aides Renata, Sam and Zeah for their dedication and endless loving support to the teachers and our gorgeous students.
Alison Scheef, Lead Teacher 1 2 3 Bellingen Campus.

Arrangements for Week 9...
An email was sent earlier this afternoon to all school families and staff detailing new arrangements for this coming week, please be sure to read it thoroughly.

We are offering a new bus service to families at Thora and Darkwood so that their children are able to attend Town School. Unfortunately, due to resources being stretched, we are unable to offer schooling at the Thora Campus concurrently with multiple locations in Bellingen and Dorrigo, both of which are able to serve the largest proportion of students. This is especially the case, as we seek to offer as normal a program as possible, including specialist subjects such as PDHPE, art, craft and music.

Classroom Locations
Remember to check the Right Now on the school website each morning in case of a change of location or arrangements.

Dorrigo Town School
  • K to 8 @ St Stephen's Anglican Church, Kurrajong St From Monday 29 March
Bellingen Town School
  • Morning Star and River Song @ Morning Star
  • Classes 1, 2 and 3 @ St Mary's Parish Hall, corner of Park & Ford St
  • Classes 4 to 8 @ Showgrounds Main Pavilion, Black St
Times
Bellingen Town School operating times will be 8:45am - 3:15pm.
Dorrigo Town School operating times will be 8:45am - 3:15pm

Please note that these two School locations are not to be used as a drop in centre; it is school as normal again. Please keep your child's attendance in line with the set school hours unless you have a valid reason, for example, a doctor's appointment. We are required to keep detailed records of attendance and all partial days need to be explained in writing.

High School, Year 9/10 further update...
The School is very pleased to advise that we have received a significant level of interest (at least 15 deposits) from families of prospective Class 9 students in 2022. This is a significant milestone for the initiative, allowing the Board to reaffirm its commitment to the School lodging an application with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). The application to NESA is being finalised in the coming week and we have been advised a determination will not likely be made until around August. During this time, NESA will be reviewing evidence provided by the School and liaising with us to ascertain our capacity to offer this class in 2022. We will continue to provide regular updates on our progress.

Camp Induction evening update...
(Please note new date. Change necessary due to continued disruptions to the school's usual operation)
Parents and carers who wish to support their child's class camp are invited to attend a camp induction on Tuesday 20 April 6pm at the Bellingen Youth Hub.
School policy requires parents to attend an induction to be eligible to attend camps, so that they are familiar with the programme and what is expected. Parents and carers attending camps must also have a current Working With Children Check (WWCC), which can be applied for using this link
Please note, our camp inductions cover participation for two years - if you have done a camp induction within this period there is no need to attend another induction until after that two year period.
Please email Admin by COB Friday 16 April at admin@chrysalis.nsw.edu.au to book a spot. Please note, due to COVID 19 restrictions, only those who book by this time will be allowed to attend.

Autumn Festival…
Due to the impact of the road closures and logistics of bringing the whole school together at a central location to celebrate the Autumn Festival, unfortunately we have had to make the decision to postpone until after the Easter School Holiday Break. The new date for the Autumn Festival at the Thora Campus has been moved to Thursday 22 April (please note this is the correct date). This has been a difficult decision to make, but necessary due to the high level of interruptions we have had due to recent flooding. Morning Star's Autumn Festival will, however, proceed on the newly advised date of Wednesday 31 March from 12pm.

Reminders...
Morning Star Autumn Harvest Festival - Wed 31 Mar
Last Day of Term - Thur 1 Apr
Camp Induction Evening - Tues 20 Apr 6pm @ Bellingen Youth Hub
First Day of Term - Wed 21 Apr
Autumn Harvest Festival - Thur 22 Apr @ Thora Campus
