As lockdown restrictions ease, the Vale of Pewsey businesses are preparing to reopen and we are looking forward to welcoming you back, or perhaps welcoming you for the first time, over the next few months.

We anticipate that holidays in the UK are going to be very popular this year, so make sure you book your accommodation well in advance. To help you, in this issue we've included a short video on where to stay, as well as features on Honeybee Glamping, Farm Stays including camping at Suddene Park Farm and how you might be able to win a stay at the Crown & Anchor in Ham!

Visit Woodborough Yard's Foodie Outdoor Market - on the first Wednesday of the month from 9am and 2pm - and find those locally-produced products from the Pewsey Vale and surrounds. 
Best of all you can speak to the people behind the products, get their expert advice and perhaps taste before you buy!

Make a beeline for Honeybee Glamping!
The perfect getaway in the pretty village of Horton, close to the Kennet & Avon Canal, these safari lodges are not only luxurious, but are eco-friendly too.
There's a reason it's called Honeybee Glamping.  Owners, Mel and Rick, have 3 hives located in a wild area at the top of the field,  in amongst the trees and nettles - all provided for the benefit of the wildlife. If you are staying when the hives are being checked, then you are more than welcome to get involved and learn more about the bees.  And middle daughter Bea also gets involved, attending the local Kennet Beekeepers' Club with her dad and caring for the bees.  However Percy the dog and Betty the cat prefer to keep their distance!

Every month Woodborough Yard runs a Free Prize Draw, announced on the Woodborough Yard Facebook page.
To enter the Prize Draw, all you have to do is like the post at the top of the Woodborough Yard Facebook page each month and you will be entered into the draw, with the winner being chosen at random at the end of every month.

The Vale of Pewsey is at the heart of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  The Landscape Trust - the charitable arm of the North Wessex Downs - is running an online raffle for one fabulous prize - a stay at the Crown and Anchor in Ham, a visit to Crofton Beam Engines and a tour of Wilton Windmill, plus a book of Walks from The Crown & Anchor by Ron Forbes and some Windmill goodies. 
The Landscape Trust does fabulous work across the North Wessex Downs, supporting community and conservation projects, including bat box installations, an infra-red camera for a local bird group, providing improvements to footpaths and village halls and installing barn owl boxes.

Farm Stays in the Vale of Pewsey
Meet Sarah from Suddene Park Farm in the heart of the Vale of Pewsey.  Sarah runs a livery on the farm and also has a beautifully situated camping and caravan site.  Well-behaved dogs and horses are welcome and because the livery horses ride out every day, there is always someone to show you the local riding routes.

We have lots of farm stays in the Vale offering unique accommodation and of course a variety of animals - including emus and llamas at Lyde Cottage and Pots & Pigs, both of which are on Manor Farm in Wilton.

Bruce Accessible Boats - a charity that runs boats on the Kennet & Avon Canal which have fully accessible facilities - has had eggs-tra help from a local family who are raising money for this worthwhile charity.  Patrick writes:
One of my pleasures in life - apart from a good Rioja - is to meet positive young people.  Recently, on a beautiful sunny morning, I walked up the hill from Great Bedwyn to meet Daisy (aged 11) and her brother Jago (aged 9) on their family farm.

Wilton Windmill - Open in 2021
Wilton Windmill is run entirely by volunteers and, because social distancing cannot be maintained as the building is too narrow, they are adopting a flexible approach to the opening of the windmill to the public in 2021. 
The grounds of the windmill will continue to be open to the public to enjoy on any day of the week (Covid restrictions permitting) - the views are well worth a visit.
You are welcome to bring your own refreshments and picnics - there are tables in the grounds for you to use. 
During the summer, a number of volunteers will occasionally be on hand (on an un-booked, ad-hoc basis) to provide information and open the granary and mill for self-guided tours by individuals within the same household or bubble.  
As social distancing restrictions are removed, the mill will be opened more formally and details will be posted on the Wilton Windmill website. 
2021 is the Windmill's 200th anniversary and hopefully this wonderful milestone will be celebrated in some way at the end of the summer.
