Greetings this morning on the last Flashback Friday for March 2021. It was a good Throwback Thursday for England last night with a 5-0 that should have easily been a 10-win against San Marino. England squandered that many chances, it looked like they were deliberately missing scoring for fun. The UK lockdown restrictions are being relaxed over the next few days which is good news but like Sargent Phil Eustahaus of Hill St Blues would say at roll call "Let's Be Careful Out there"

The Soul Survivors Magazine issue 91 for April and May 2021 has gone to print and design and we should depending on the pre bank holiday demand get them if not before back on  6th April. We have a 1985 interview with our front cover icon the late Mary Wilson of The Supremes, conducted by another interviewee John Osborne live when he was on Horizon Radio. Our other interview features are with Andrea Robertson and Roni O'Brien who alongside John are appearing at the forthcoming Great Yarmouth Soul Weekender in September 2021.

It will also feature our Roll Call Of Fame homages to Jazz funk fusion musicians Chick Corea and Paul Jackson and maverick Jamaican reggae icons Bunny Wailer and U-Roy, who all sadly passed since the last issue of the magazine.

It's been a heavy duty week of celebrating soul survivor birthdays of those that have passed and that are still here, including George Benson, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin yesterday and today it's the 81st of Teddy Pendergrass and the 77th of Motown's 'first lady' Diana Ross. So it's a good excuse for all of you to blow the dust off their records and give them a spin, and for me to play on my show this Sunday on OSSR

Tell us about meeting The Nicholas Brothers in the USA ?





Leon, Travis and I were working together for the first time for HCC Ski Company. We were in the Las Vegas exhibition centre doing the last show for the day  when all of a sudden I noticed The Nicholas Brothers in the front row watching me. I was doing a solo and it was only me that had noticed that they were there. I told Travis and Leon while I was changing into my next outfit backstage and boy you want to see how things stepped up man. (Trevor laughs) We had to throw it down properly! After the show The Nicholas Brothers presented themselves to us and man you can just imagine how elated I was. I said, ‘Man you do not know who you are to me.” and then I said that I’d put on the full works for them after spotting them in the audience. They couldn't stop saying thank you or stop praising us.




Wow!  Did you get a picture with them?




Yes, not at that particular time as Faynard had a walking stick but Harold invited us to a show he was starring in called Sophisticated Ladies and that’s where we took a lot of pictures with him and the cast. I told him that he still had it and that he was still the best and he said, “Nah there’s this new cat called Gregory Hines, he’s very good.” Harold is a lovely person. After meeting him we spoke about his life with Dorothy Dandridge and man could you imagine being with a woman like that, are you crazy or what? (Trevor laughs)
