Dear <<First Name>>,

Today we probably have one of the lesser known wineries in Montalcino but judging by recent critical praise, not for much longer.

Talenti was established by a passionate Pierluigi Talenti in the late 1950's and is now run by a 3rd generation family team. There is no doubting the quality from this producer in two of the greatest vintages so far in the 21st century.
Sadly, you will be very lucky to get your hands on the
2016 Brunello di Montalcino 'Piero' named in memory of the founder after a 98 pts score from Bruce Sanderson at Wine Spectator. A testament to the vintage and wine making talent.

It 2015 and 2016 Vintages for Southern France and Northern Italy in particular, will be highlights in future history books offering the highest quality but subtle differences to captivate connoisseurs and fans alike.
In Tuscany Monica Larner at Wine Advocate describes them as 'flashy' and 'classy' respectively. As well as the latest releases from the outstanding
2016 vintage we also have the 2015 Riserva's emerging, benefitting from that extra year of aging.

Monica Larner (Wine Advocate)

"Brunello from 2016 and Brunello Riserva from 2015 are poised for long-term success, they will undoubtedly be remembered as important highlights on a long timeline of vintages.
These are career-defining wines for many estates and for the appellation as a whole."

Talenti is another one of those dramatic and picturesque hilltop wineries in Tuscany with far reaching views, south-west of the medieval town of Montalcino

These wines are priced towards the value end of the vast Tuscan spectrum but that should not detract from the immense quality. The 2016 Bnuello di Montralcino scores a more than respectable 95 pts from Bruce Sanderson at Wine Spectator and 94 pts from Eric Guido at Vinous.com, not bad for a £30 bottle from a great vintage.
Yet it is the
2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 'Pian di Conte' that is the star of this offer with the usually conservative Bruce Sanderson smashing it out of the park with a colossal 98 pts, the highest so far for a 2015 Tuscan wine!

Eric Guido (Vinous.com)

"If I had to think of one way to universally describe the majority of wines from the 2016 vintage, I would offer that they are like a well-muscled black stallion in its prime. They are dark yet radiant, expressive, nearly explosive at times, yet pure, poised and structured. These are wines that capture your imagination; and no matter how youthfully tense they are today, you simply can’t help but revisit a glass over and over again; because in many cases, the aromatics alone are intoxicating.
I frankly cannot remember the last time I tasted young wines from Montalcino that possessed such symmetry from start to finish."

With only 2600 cases of the 2016 Brunello di Montalcino and only 550 cases of the 2015 BDM Riserva, these wines offer an affordable perspective on two special vintages.
At currently the best price on the UK marketplace and they deserve a spot in your cellar for future enjoyment, from two legendary vintages.

2016 Brunello di Montalcino (DOCG)

A selection of 100% Sangiovese grapes grown in estate-owned vineyards situated on the south-easterly and south-westerly slopes of the municipality of Montalcino, at altitudes carrying from 250 to 400 metres above sea level. The soils are made up of sandy loam, with clay and plenty of Galestro marl heavy stone. The wines age in 500-litre French oak tonneaux and 15 to 25-Hl Slavonian oak barrels for at least 24 months, followed by a period of bottle ageing.

(Wine Spectator) - 95 pts

This is supple and round, evoking macerated cherry, plum and licorice flavors, framed by accents of iron, tea and wild herbs. Solidly built, with a dense matrix of tannins enforcing the finish. Shows fine overall balance."

The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino boasts a striking display of balsamic-tinged cherry and autumnal spice with a twist of sour citrus really appealing to the senses. It’s silky and pliant with a gorgeous display of ripe red and hints of black fruit. There’s a sweet and sour element here that I find quite attractive, as the 2016 gains a tactile feel toward the close through a mix of brisk acids and rounded tannins. The length and classic structure on the finish completes the expression, leaving dark florals and mineral earth tones. Talenti remains one of the best values in age-worthy Brunello in the market. That said, it’s also worth checking in on a bottle early to enjoy all of its primary intensity."
2015 Brunello di Montalcino Pian di Conte Riserva

A selection of 100% Sangiovese grapes grown in the oldest vineyards, near the centre of the estate (400 m above sea level) are used only in absolutely exceptional years to create Riserva Pian di Conte. The south-easterly exposed soils are made up of sandy loam and plenty of heavy stone. The wine ages in 500-litre French oak tonneaux and 15 to 25-Hl Slavonian oak barrels for at least 24 months, followed by a period of bottle ageing.

Bruce Sanderson
(Wine Spectator) - 98 pts

"This intense red is saturated with macerated plum, black cherry, black currant, violet, iron and spice aromas and flavors, with a rich texture wrapping around the refined tannins. Distinctive and expressive, this remains fresh and focused through the long, complex aftertaste."

"It will be hard to keep our hands off of the 2015 Talenti Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Pian di Conte long enough to watch it fully mature. It opens up with a dark and alluring display of sweet herbs, tobacco and crushed black cherries, as hints of white smoke, sage and cedar add further depths. It’s velvety and pliant, cast over a core of motivating acidity and cooling minerals, creating a push and pull between ripeness and tension. Fine tannins lurk deep beneath it all, yet they never get in the way of the 2015’s long-lasting wild berry fruits and balsamic spice. Give this a few years in the cellar for maximum pleasure."

Talenti Winery

In the 1950's Pierluigi Talenti moved from Romagna to the gently rolling and sunny hills of Montalcino. After a few years, he decided to acquire the estate and all its lands he had fallen in love with.
Through the years, he devoted his time to the clonal research of Sangiovese all over Montalcino, taking his wines to the highest levels of quality. Today, his grandson Riccardo Talenti runs the winery and continues that research with the utmost respect for tradition, working with the very same passion and determination. The estate has been developed around an old farm called “Pian di Conte”, not far from Sant’Angelo in Colle, on the southern slope of the municipality of Montalcino, which has been restructured and expanded over the years. The property occupies an area of 40 hectares, among vineyards, olive groves, orchards and seed crops, surrounded by age-old holm-oak woods, characteristic of the Montalcino area. The vineyards are divided into eleven different plots, each with different altitude, exposure and soil composition, creating red wines that are incredibly complex and profound. We have always had a passion for the cultivation of olives which are a very traditional element within the Tuscan landscape. We grow the Correggiolo and Moraiolo varieties, from which a bright green and intensely scented oil is extracted.
