Dear Arch Designated Student,

We are excited to write today to share information about the upcoming Arch summer semester. As you heard from Dr. Jackson at the Sophomore Town Hall on February 23 and the Spring Town Meeting yesterday, our teams have been hard at work planning for your transition to The Arch summer semester.

With continued compliance of our health and safety policies and protocols, including a comprehensive testing and tracking process, and an increasing rate of vaccinations within our community, we are looking forward to an on-campus Arch summer experience. Consequently, we are planning to have all eligible students living on campus to completely engage with the services, courses, and opportunities provided this summer. As a reminder, all remote exemptions expire on May 12.

While most of you have already consulted with your academic department and have registered for your Arch courses, we encourage those of you who have not, to do so immediately. A full schedule is available online. As of today, over 2/3 of of your Arch courses will be in an in-person or hybrid format, allowing for extensive, direct faculty engagement and peer-to-peer connection, across all schools and majors, with the remaining 1/3 being conducted in an online model.

Additionally, we have been planning an array of co-curricular activities that will take place out of the classroom, taking advantage of all that the Rensselaer campus and the Capital Region has to offer as we continue to build community and cohort affinity. Activities will be promoted through the Guidebook App, which will serve as a key channel for Arch communications, connecting and engaging you and your classmates. We will begin pushing out information through Guidebook beginning May 17 when The Arch Orientation becomes available.

Lastly, over the next couple of weeks, you will begin to receive additional communications from The Arch and Student Living and Learning staff with specific guidelines on the return-to-campus process (move in, COVID-19 testing, quarantine procedures, and availability of vaccinations).

In closing, please remain acquainted with the academic calendar and save the date for the start of in-person classes for The Arch summer semester which takes place on Monday, May 24. As always, visit the Institute COVID-19 website frequently for Arch FAQs, as they are being continuously updated. We also invite students to continue utilizing the The Arch Feedback form for any inquiries or thought contributions to making the summer a more enjoyable experience.

If you have any questions, please email the TheArch@rpi.edu. We look forward to seeing you back on campus this summer.

Sincerely,
Dr. Prabhat Hajela
Provost
