Jewish Changemakers is back!

Are you between the ages 20-24? Looking for valuable career development, networking opportunities, and to make a difference this summer? The Jewish Federations of North America’s Jewish Changemakers Fellowship is back with a three-week interactive, global online leadership experience that offers a stipend of $350.

Two sessions will be offered: June 7-24 and July 12-29. Curriculum covers: Professional Development (your career), Service & Advocacy (your community), and Global Jewish Community (your world). Fellows meet once daily, Monday -Thursday, for 75-minutes at 12 p.m. or 12:30 p.m., once a week (on average) for small group discussions, and asynchronously for electives. This group requires approximately 12 hours/week in order to earn the certificate of completion and stipend.

Hebrew to Go – Yalla Shabbat
with NEXTGen & MoPo Indy – April 9
NEXTGen & MoPo Indy will gather over Shabbat with Jewish educator, Moshe Lencer. Participants will learn how Hebrew is used in everyday life for traveling to Israel and more. This session is the second one in the series and will focus on Yom Hazikaron (Israel Memorial Day) and Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israel Independence Day) to demonstrate terms that are heard during these events. The Indianapolis Jewish Community Book of Life recognizes and honors individuals who have committed to leave a legacy gift or establish an endowment to the Federation. The Book is a living, evolving collection of stories of Federation legacy donors. Each story reveals what has inspired and motivated members of the Indianapolis community to leave after-lifetime gifts to support Jewish life in the future. J-Serve: Teen Day of Service

Teen’s are encouraged to attend a morning of community service and fun to nourish the community through good works! Jewish 8th-12th graders will gather at Holliday Park to learn about and remove invasive plant species. Program is capped at 50 participants and will be conducted in socially-distanced pods. Masks will be required. There will also be a cleaning supplies drive for Popsie's Pantry so sign up soon!

Indianapolis Legacy Donors to be honored at May 25 virtual event

Indianapolis’ legacy donors are among the 18,000 who will be honored at the first Legacy Donor Appreciation Event sponsored by the Harold Grinspoon Foundation’s (HGF) LIFE & LEGACY® initiative.  The event, to be held virtually at 7:30 p.m. May 25 and will celebrate each of the donors from LIFE & LEGACY’s 71-partner communities who are securing the Jewish future through their legacy gift.

The evening will feature the stories of donors from across North America who have made legacy commitments as well as greetings and reflections from Harold Grinspoon, Founder of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation and Winnie Sandler Grinspoon, the Foundation’s president. Jonah Kaplan, an award-winning Political and Investigative Reporter at WTVD, the ABC-owned station in Raleigh-Durham, NC, will serve as the evening’s host.

There is no charge for the 45-minute event.

“Through LIFE & LEGACY, we are sustaining vibrant communities so future generations will be able to enjoy our rich Jewish culture and heritage,” said Harold Grinspoon, the founder of HGF.  “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to honor all those who have made a legacy commitment to date, and to encourage others to join us in this endeavor.”

A Survivor’s Journey: Present to Past to Future
 
The Greater Lafayette Holocaust Remembrance Committee is pleased to announce the Spring 2021 Conference, an interview with Sam Wachs, a Holocaust survivor.

Sam Wach's presentation from Israel, "A Survivor’s Journey: Present to Past to Future,” will be held at noon on April 8 via Zoom. A live Q&A will follow. The entire presentation will be reshown on a 7 p.m. April 13.

Newcomers Program – This is an ongoing social action by CBS that welcomes your help. CBS assists IPS families who are new to the United States and attend an IPS school to help acclimate them to American schools. Although their learning is currently virtual, the families still need basic items for their homes.  CBSs collects gently used clothing, household goods, toys, linens, personal hygiene items, and furniture. Camp Style Family Shabbat geared toward families with elementary school children is offered concurrently on the second Friday of the month.  Nefesh Shabbat, a soulful musical Shabbat is always the third Friday of each month.
 
Saturdays |9 a.m. – Torah Study Online. This weekly Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) study group is currently studying the weekly Torah portions. Led by IHC clergy, the group is guided through the text seeking understanding of the teaching for the time and discussing its message for today. While on Zoom, follow the weekly Torah portion. When in-person congregation is possible, IHC will continue moving through the entire Tanakh, line by line. The group study uses the English translation. No prior knowledge is necessary.
 
Wednesdays | 9:30 a.m. – Virtual Torah Talk with Rabbi Brett. Torah Talk is an informal, accessible, and interactive opportunity for adults of all levels of learning to discuss and study Judaism and its texts.
