Dear St. George's Society members and friends,

I would like to personally thank each of you who was able to attend, and donate towards, the virtual cocktail event on St. George's Day.  A very special thank you to COM member Kathy Mojsovski for her tireless efforts to put the week of events together to honour St. George and the Society.  Although we could not meet in person, it was wonderful to see the cheerful faces of our members and some new potentIal members of the St. George's Society.  As we continue to battle through this third wave of the pandemic, I remind all members that we are here for you.  We are but an e-mail or phone call away. Always willing and able to lend a hand when needed.  Similarly, we as a Society are here for those in need in Toronto - from frontline workers to the lesser fortunate homeless in the City.  We continue to support our local charities, such as the Youth Employment Services highlighted below.  We can only continue to do so with your support.  As such, I encourage you to please donate to the Society and help us maintain our mission of supporting those in need.

It is my pleasure to extend a formal invitation from the Royal Commonwealth Society of Toronto to attend a unique and special online tribute to the late Duke of Edinburgh. The event features official greetings and personal stories about the Duke of Edinburgh and
will take place Saturday, May 1st at 11:00 am, more details below.

I am pleased to introduce to you Youth Employment Services YES, one of the charitable organizations we supported last year. Applications are being accepted until July 31st, click here for more information.

Thank you for your continued support, which allows us to honour our long tradition of giving in the city of Toronto.

Prince Philip’s connections to Canada and the Commonwealth ran deep. His Royal Highness made 32,000 solo engagements, 637 overseas visits, and delivered an estimated 5,493 speeches. He played an active role in 992 charities and organizations as a member, supporter or Royal Patron, with more than 40 of them based in Canada. He was Colonel-in-Chief of five Canadian regiments and he visited Canada over 60 times, 46 times on his own. He was an Extraordinary Companion of the Order of Canada and an Extraordinary Commander of the Order of Military Merit.

The Royal Commonwealth Society of Toronto has planned a unique and special online tribute, highlighting the many facets of HRH Prince Philip’s life. The event features official greetings and personal stories about the Duke of Edinburgh from the following:

For 50+ years, Youth Employment Services YES has been helping low-income and vulnerable youth find and maintain employment. Through YES' programs and services, youth develop new skills, gain confidence and motivation, and identify and pursue their goals. Last year 86% of the young people who were supported through YES' assisted programs had a successful outcome. "We are proud to work with organizations across Canada, sharing our resources and expertise to better assist young people across our nation".

And those young people need us now more than ever. This past year was truly terrible; the youth unemployment rate in Ontario remains alarmingly high at 20% with jobs in sectors that typically employ young people, such as hospitality/food services, obliterated. With the continued increase in inequality and mental health issues, young people are left with less opportunities to develop and thrive.

As a leader in providing job readiness, employment and empowerment programming, YES has continued to work on the frontlines helping youth face these unprecedented challenges, providing safe and innovative virtual career counseling, mental health programming, up-skilling, job development, basic needs support, and programming with youth, via phone, email and webinars, and through our online programming platform.

Note: pictures shown were taken pre-pandemic, all of YES' services are currently being carried out virtually.
"We are incredibly grateful to our partners such as The St. Georges Society of Toronto for their support during these difficult times. If we all continue to work as a community, we can put in place the solutions that are vitally needed to help our youth through this ongoing crisis and ensure they are set up for success." said Carrie-Ann Goodfellow, Youth Employment Services YES
