One year of monitoring and reporting on Labor Ministries' response to COVID-19
This Thursday, April 1st marks one year since the publication of the first version of the RIAL Portfolio of Responses of Ministries of Labor to COVID-19.  This tool  includes ___ measures adopted by OAS Member States to mitigate the effects of the economic and health crisis on the region's labor market, as well as resources (studies, publications and reports) that analyze the effects of the pandemic in the hemisphere. 
Several Ministries, workers' and employers' organizations in the region have stated that this Portfolio has been a useful guide to learn about the responses of their peers to the pandemic, which has helped them to chart their own responses.

Evaluation of proposals underway for the 14th RIAL/OAS Call for Bilateral Cooperation  

On Monday, March 15, the 14th Call for Bilateral Cooperation of the RIAL/OAS successfully closed. The Technical Secretariat received more than 25 proposals involving 14 countries, in which the Ministries of Labor seek closer cooperation and technical advice on child labor, gender equality, union registration, social dialogue, and employability, among other issues. 
The selected proposals will be announced during the first days of April.

341st. Session of the ILO Governing Body takes place 

During the weeks of March 15-27, meetings of the ILO Governing Body were held remotely, where the agenda for the 109th International Labor Conference (to be held from June 7 to 18, 2021) was formalized, and budgetary decisions were made, among others. Martin Walsh, new United States Secretary of Labor

On Tuesday, March 23, Martin Walsh was sworn in as the United States Secretary of Labor, joining President Joe Biden's administration after being confirmed by the Senate on Monday, March 22. 
Mr. Walsh has previously served as Mayor of Boston and prior to that, he had an extensive union background serving as Secretary-Treasurer of the Boston Building Trades.
