Is it really true that Jesus Christ rose from the dead?
That is a question you may well consider?

Let me put it to you like this. Suppose you made up a fabulous sounding account of something which people began to believe even though it was untrue. Your duped followers may well do anything to defend their acceptance of your false account if they sincerely believe it!
You however know you made it up. You know it is not true. You may have couched your description in clever familiar and common matters of life that make it sound credible. But you know it is false, completely made up. It is all a lie. Others have believed your account but it remains untrue.

Now suppose on pain of death you are confronted with allegations of your falsehood. Now your opponents will kill you unless you openly admit you have lied. Would you let them kill you for something you knew was not true?

For three years Jesus's disciples had followed him. They knew him. They witnessed His death and His resurrection. They refused to retract what they had seen for themselves - Jesus alive from the dead, risen. They saw Him ascend into heaven forty days later.

Some of them were executed by their opposers. They refused to back down in the face of death.
This is not about sincerity but about truth. Although, if it was all made up about Jesus rising from the dead, the disciples would then be insincere as well as liars. But would they allow themselves to be killed for a cause they knew was a lie? I think not.

Jesus is risen. He is the Saviour from our sins. It's not my story. I did not write it. It was written in the blood of those who knew Jesus and what happened after His death on a cross. That's good enough for me.

Looking ahead

John Wycliffe

England looked very different from today in the fourteenth century with a population of around four million quickly decimated by The Black death.
That amazing book, The Bible, was not available to the people in their own language.
The wealthy, influential and powerful established "church" peddled false teaching with relative ease and without significant challenge….and then John Wycliffe came on the scene….click below  to hear the reading of Faith Cook's short account of John Wycliffe.
FOCUS ON THE PERSECUTED CHURCH - NIGERIA

More Christians are murdered for their faith in Nigeria than any other country, and violence is increasing.

Attacks by Islamic extremist groups are common in the north and middle belt of the country, and are becoming more common further south.

In these attacks, Christians are often murdered or have their property and means of livelihood destroyed.  Christian women are often abducted and raped by these militant groups, and sometimes forced to marry Muslims.

Open Doors partners with the local church to strengthen persecuted believers in Nigeria through discipleship and persecution survival training, education and community development projects, emergency relief and trauma care.

PRAY

For those who are mourning loved ones, to know God's peace.

That God would lovingly heal women and girls suffering trauma after sexual attacks.

That Nigeria's government will take decisive action to protect all citizens in the country

This Sunday our Pastor will be preaching on the phrase ” Our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ who gave himself for us that he might redeem us…..”. Jesus is truly God and was made human and died – why was that? What purpose? What difference does it make if these things are true?
This Sunday, 21 March, our Pastor will be preaching from Titus chapter 2. His title is “Yesterday, today and tomorrow”. Jesus came – that is history. Jesus lives – the resurrection is hard to deny!! Jesus will return – what will happen and what will it mean for you? Paul writes to Titus and pens these words “….looking for that blessed hope, the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ”
This Sunday, 14th March, Bill Saunders will be preaching. The message is titled, “OK, God is there, but does He really CARE about us-about me? Problems related to suffering and pain have existed from almost the beginning of man’s existence upon earth, and will be with us until the end. Many ask why? There are difficult life experiences that simply do not make sense, as evil, divisions and wars and their effects spread through every relationship and every strata of society-even noted in our own hearts. Likewise, Christians have had like Job to struggle to find meaning in the midst of all the anxieties and agonies of life, layered in mystery. In this season leading up to Easter it is a reasonable question to nobly enquire with respect to: does God really care for us, does He really care about you and me – and how? Please join us this Sunday as we address this question and offer answers to comfort ourselves with the truth of Jesus Christ, the sin bearer for all mankind and Saviour of the World.
This Sunday 7th March our Pastor will be preaching on the subject of "Life's Journey".
