Career Pathways Charter School Monthly News March 2021

Conversations About Ethics

Students in our English Language Arts grades 11/12 have been reading about stories connected to philosophy and ethics. Here’s a sampling of what they’ve been reading:

"The Rings of Gyges" - an ethics based story from Ancient Greece about decision making when no one can see you.

Work-based Problems - various short scenarios that students then use their critical thinking skills to settle.

"The Lottery" - a (thankfully!) fictional story from the 1940's written by Shirley Jackson that pushes readers to think beyond mob mentality and assume personal responsibility.

"The Limits of Student Speech" - an article from a youth magazine, Upfront, that explains a current Supreme Court case being decided this year with possible ramifications for students' social media use.

These are just a sampling of the texts we read in quarter three. Students are now doing research and writing based on a topic springing from class that they want to know about.
I am very proud of their effort and enthusiasm! ~ Ms. Liz Lonetti
