“I wish each of us Easter eyes, able to perceive in death, life; in guilt, forgiveness; in separation, unity; in wounds, glory; in the human, God; in God, the human; and in the I, the you.”
(Bishop Klaus Hemmerle of Aachen)

From Father Chris

The Lord’s Supper

The promise that we proclaim, the good news that we hand on, the mystery that we consider is that, through bread and cup of wine shared in his name, Christ gives us himself and makes us participants in the new covenant that he established on the night when he was handed over and ratified by dying on the cross and rising from the grave.  Through actions as basic as eating and drinking and a meal as simple as a taste of bread and a swallow of wine, Jesus makes us participants in the meal he instituted on the night before his death.  In this meal, the church celebrates Christ’s body and blood given and shed on the cross and a foretaste of our portion of Christ’s resurrected life.  Through this meal we proclaim the Lord’s death and participate in the new covenant.

Good Friday Offering:
The Good Friday Offering was first gathered in 1922 as an intentional response by the Episcopal Church to the devastations of WWI, the Spanish Flu pandemic, and political and social unrest affecting Armenian Christians and others throughout the Middle East. This effort to establish strong relationships with indigenous Christians in the Holy Land continues to bear fruit. We are all aware that the COVID-19 pandemic has affected virtually every person in one way or another and may take years to recover from.

For those who are able to give, the Good Friday Offering is a reminder for our Anglican brothers and sisters in the Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East that the Episcopal Church stands in solidarity with them in Jesus' Name.
As we have in the past, we will have an alms plate set aside for donations during Holy Week. You may contribute individually during this time (mark your check Good Friday Offering), or if you wish, please  visit www.episcopalchurch.org/goodfridayoffering, for further instructions.

GREAT NEWS
Great news
Thanks to an updated letter from Bishop Jose, Holy Family can now open up without reservations. Seating has been arranged to accommodate 60 people and meet the social distancing requirements. This is just in time for Holy Week and Easter. So shed your Sunday bathrobes, get dressed, comb your hair, move off the couch,  don your mask, and join us for worship. Bring a friend and introduce them to Holy Family.

For those who are unable to attend, live stream and recorded services will still be available. Look for the links under the computer links section of this newsletter.
Holy Family will observe Maunday Thursday Service on April 1 at 5:15 pm.  While we will not be able to have the foot washing, please plan to attend this quiet, spiritual service that represents the humbling of one self in service to another.

Taken a few years ago, the photo above captured the most moving moment I have personally experienced at Holy Family when one of the children came up and said “I want to wash your feet”. In that instant, this child became Jesus to me as she humbled herself to perform this lowly task.

All about IAM

Now that Holy Family has embraced the goal of collecting 500 lbs of food for IAM by Easter, Inquiring minds might want to know what is IAM and what is Holy Family’s role in supporting this organization

What is IAM?

Interfaith Assistance Ministry (IAM) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization providing assistance to Henderson County residents since 1984. Established by local churches, the Hendersonville Ministerial Association and the synagogue to coordinate crisis services in their behalf, Interfaith is now supported by local congregations, businesses, civic groups, individuals and grants.

Our Mission: To assist members of our community experiencing crisis with basic needs, in an atmosphere of compassion and respect.

Our Vision: A compassionate community working together to meet the basic needs of all in our county.

What is Holy Family’s Role with IAM?

Holy Family along with area congregations, provide IAM with funds and in-kind donations of critical supplies such as food, clothing, blankets, school supplies, etc. Their membership also fills many key volunteer positions and offers their time and talents for special projects needed to maintain and improve the IAM facility. Congregations are the heart of our work to meet the basic needs of all in Henderson County.
Holy Family has supported IAM for many years as part of our mission of bringing the love of Christ to Henderson county.
