Theatre majors Jonah Smith and Joshua Row were named Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship Finalists for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) five-state Region 5. Joshua placed second and is the alternate for the national festival’s Irene Ryan Scholarship competition. Jonah received special recognition for outstanding performance of his classic monologue and a scholarship from the Voice and Speech Trainers Association. Five UNW students (Emma Davis, Zach Hedner, Caleb Hustedde, MacKenzie Kroll, Sydney Lanning) were named finalists which celebrates and recognizes outstanding students and offers educational opportunities to work with musical theatre professionals. D’Lorah Roberts received special recognition for her outstanding work in stage management for the production of “Bright Star!” Congratulations to these students and to Director Jennifer Hunter!
The School of Theology and Ministry was ranked by Best Value Schools to be in the top 10 of the Best 15 Theology Degree Programs in 2021 and the Master of Arts in Theological Studies program was ranked in the top 5 of the Best 13 Masters in Theology Programs in 2021.
Kirk Moss’ prerecorded session, “Teaching String Techniques Has Never Been So Easy,” will be broadcast during the 2021 Virtual American String Teachers Association National Conference on March 4.

On February 4, Steve Harthorn served as an invited panelist for “Retelling History: The Last of the Mohicans 195th Anniversary,” sponsored by Fort William Henry in Lake George, New York. The fall of Fort William Henry in 1757 during the French and Indian War is depicted in James Fenimore Cooper’s 1826 novel.
KSTP TV sent a camera to campus on February 20 and aired a segment about our COVID-safe production of Jane Austen’s Emma on the 10:00 p.m. news. Congratulations to Jennifer Hunter, Director and Costume Designer; Doreen Hutchings, Vocal Director; David Kozamchak, Musical Director and Conductor; and Iris Dodge, Technical Director and Scenic Designer.
Matt Hyre was awarded a contract to numerically evaluate novel technologies for the treatment of wastewater by Envirodyne Systems in Camp Hill, PA. These technologies are aimed at helping water treatment facilities meet stringent environmental requirements while cutting operation and maintenance costs.
Dale Lemke and Pam Solvie are facilitating a ten-week seminar, Leading with CQ, that focuses on creating a climate for integration and growth in CQ, examining leadership skills and dispositions through the lens of CQ, and identifying steps for application and growth.
