Creating what comes next

During the pandemic, I experimented with new ways to support your exploration of mindfulness from a safe distance.

I moved my longstanding Wednesday evening practice group online, added a shorter practice group on Saturday mornings, and an even shorter silent meditation session on Sunday evenings.

I also learned how to stream my weekday morning meditation practice over Facebook and Instagram

Thanks for letting me know what you've found useful during this time.

Now that the coronavirus restrictions have relaxed, it seems like a good time to take a deep breath, let the current experiments come to an end, and begin creating what comes next.

Over the coming weeks, I'll be designing workshops and courses for people who want to:

  • become more mindful without meditating
  • learn exercises to fit specific challenges and interests
  • establish a consistent meditation habit
  • support their efforts with meditation apps
  • go beyond what can be learned using apps alone
Speaking of apps, I'm excited about a unique new course I've been working on for Insight Timer. I'll also be adding new guided exercises and hosting live sessions related to the themes of the course.

I'd love to hear how you've modified your mindfulness routine during this challenging time, ideas you have for revising it now, and if there's anything I can do to help support your efforts.

Please know how much I appreciate your ongoing encouragement and support.

Look for a newsletter from me later in the summer about an updated website and new ways to practice together soon.

Take care,

Final COVID-19 report from Axios
"The vaccines work. They’ve brought cases to their lowest point yet, and because that improvement is the result of vaccines, there’s no reason to believe the virus will start gaining significant ground again any time soon.

Cases in the U.S. are low, and they’re likely to stay low — which is why, after 56 weeks, this will be the end of our weekly map."
How To Change Your Habits, Ten Percent Happier podcast with Katy Milkman
"We tend to think if we have big goals and we're ambitious enough, we'll get far. In reality, people who try to make it fun to pursue their goals get farther because they persist."
Why You’re Burning Out — And How to Fix It, Ten Percent Happier podcast with Leah Weiss
"In this conversation, Dan and Leah cover: the differences between anxiety, depression, and burnout; how to detect burnout; how burnout runs along a spectrum, and is a 'full body' experience; why meditation can help but also make some people more susceptible to burnout; what can be done to protect women in the workplace; and Leah's argument that burnout isn’t just a personal problem, but also a systemic one."
The Gift of Getting Old, from, Vox Conversations podcast with Max Linksky
"Staying close to [the inevitability of death] allows you to be more present more often."
70 Over 70 podcast
"A show about how we make the most of the time we have left. Max Linsky talks to 70 remarkable people, all over the age of 70, not just about their past but their lives right now. These are conversations about the big questions we all ask ourselves, no matter how old we are. What does it mean to live well? What are we still searching for? And how do we learn to let go?"
