In its seventh year, the Challenge is a great way to learn about the history and impacts of racism on our current food system while inspiring participants with resources and tools to build racial equity in their work and lives. LOVE YOUR MOTHER! The Monadnock Food Co-op is partnering with the Monadnock International Film Festival and the Monadnock Farm & Community Coalition (producer of the Feast On This! Film Festival) to host the virtual Monadnock Earth Day Film Festival, April 22-April 24. This free virtual event will feature films and host panel discussions to celebrate and cultivate a more resilient world, including a screening of "First We Eat," a female-directed film addressing food sovereignty and climate resiliency.

NEW REPORT! A climate resilient food system is defined as one that, in the face of climate disruption, is reliable across the supply chain from production to distribution, ensures adequate food availability and access for all populations, and is centered on racial equity. Our Climate Action Team supported the work of a fellow to produce a report analyzing and discussing recommended actions needed to foster the development of a climate resilient food system in New Hampshire. This Spring join NOFA-NH and Seacoast Permaculture for a five-part Zoom book discussion of David Bollier's Think Like a Commoner every other Thursday from 7-8:30PM. Join American Farmland Trust President and CEO, John Piotti, and special guest, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, for a teletownhall. They will take questions live from the audience while discussing the benefits for farmers and ranchers provided by the American Rescue Plan. They will also look ahead to where the Department of Agriculture is headed, with a focus on regenerative practices and the importance of agriculture in the fight against climate change, the need to recruit a diverse next generation of farmers, and farmland protection. Join the Farm-Based Education Network for a three-part workshop to critically reflect on questions of worker justice in the food system. The true cost of our food will be examined to uncover how educators and consumers can be more effective allies to food workers, while engaging with students in the classroom or on the farm.

Stonewall Farm is offering three classes in Holistic Management intended for farmers, land owners, field professionals, and educators wanting to become an Accredited Professional (AP) with the Savory Institute. APRIL 17 & 18
Join the Boston University Gastronomy community for in-depth discussions and (remote) hands-on foraging experiences during its Living Landscapes Conference. The conference will use foraging as a tangible entry point into the nexus of environmental racism, climate change, land (in)access, social justice, and food sovereignty, bringing together people from a wide variety of backgrounds—including foragers, researchers, and activists—for critical conversations. Join UNH's Changemaker Collaborative for "Uncharted: Navigating to a Sustainable Future," a presentation and discussion featuring Margaret Heffernan, author of the book Uncharted. Those in the field of sustainability know that creating a sustainable future demands figuring out how to navigate in uncharted territory, to address highly complex challenges, work across silos and sectors to do bold experiments to discover new options, and ultimately develop effective, sustainable solutions. REFLECT ON SUGARING SEASON
As sugaring season in the Granite State wraps up, reflect on the history of maple syrup and tree tapping with an episode of the  Indigenous New Hampshire Collaborative Collective's podcast, Indigenous NH 101, featuring Paul Pouliot of the Cowasuck Band of the Pennacook Abenaki People sharing about Gluskabe, the Alnombak, and why maple syrup is made the way it is today. Listen here >>

UPDATE: NH FEEDING NH 2021
In 2020, NH Feeding NH, a partnership between the NH Food Alliance, NOFA-NH, the NH Food Bank, and NH Farm Bureau, facilitated paid contracts to 170 local farmers for 40,000 pounds of produce, meat, and dairy delivered to 77 local agencies. NE FARM VIABILITY SURVEY
In partnership with the National Young Farmers Coalition, Drs. Ike Leslie and Analena Bruce of the UNH College of Life Sciences and Agriculture are looking for New England farmers to participate in a survey as part of their study of farm viability and regional food system development in New England. LAND PROTECTION TRANSACTION GRANTS
DUE APRIL 12

The Great Bay Resource Protection Partnership (GBRPP) is offering grants to assist with land transaction costs for the permanent land protection projects in the coastal watershed area of New Hampshire and Maine.

NEW HAMPSHIRE SPECIALTY CROP GRANT PROGRAM
DUE APRIL 30

The New Hampshire Department of Agriculture, Markets, & Food (NHDAMF) is eligible to receive funding from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) under the 2021 Specialty Crop Block Grant Program (SCBGP). The NHDAMF will offer eligible New Hampshire organizations the opportunity to apply for a portion of these funds to conduct projects that enhance the competitiveness of NH Specialty Crops (fruit, vegetable, nursery, floriculture, herb, maple, Christmas tree and honey crops) under the New Hampshire Specialty Crops Grant Program.
