When did you first start working for Dreamland?
I joined the Dreamland team in October last year, first in the office plus guiding part time. And this spring I was able to step into guiding full time, which is extremely exciting.
Where are you originally from?
I was born and raised in Southeast Idaho, and I moved to Utah 21 years ago to raise my family with eight children, ages 10 - 27. Our family moved to Kanab last May to start a new life. It feels like the Redrock welcomed us home. It’s a pleasure to live in a community that welcomed our family with open arms. I love watching my kids do things they enjoy and being able to spend a lot of time outdoors.
What's your favorite Dreamland tour?
That’s a tough one because I love them all. And I have to say: White Pocket. It looks like a different planet. Every corner you turn there is something else that’s absolutely amazing. I also have to mention Peekaboo Canyon! Every time I visit it feels like it’s the first time because I get to see it through the eyes of our guests.
If money was no object, what would you do all day?
Being a guide at Dreamland is already my dream come true as I get to guide people and share with them the beauty of the earth. The bigger dream I’m working on is to run retreats at the Grand Canyon and guide people who are dealing with crisis in their lives so they can heal.
If you could live anywhere EXCEPT for the desert Southwest, where would you want to live?
See, the funny thing is that being here so close to the Grand Canyon IS my dream come true. I’m right where I envisioned myself thirty years ago. When I was a teenager I worked at Jacobs Lake on the Kaibab Plateau for the summer. I like to joke that the Grand Canyon was my first love! And I always knew in my heart that I would be back one day. For three years I had been envisioning our move to Kanab, and last year we made the jump. I couldn’t be happier. As well as for my kids who still live at home. What a special environment to grow up in.
Share one of your favorite memories that you've made while guiding/working for Dreamland.
There are so many already. One of my favorite times was with a gentlemen who was a photographer. I guided him at White Pocket which is the most amazing playground. He just wanted to play, wander around and take pictures. It was so much fun watching him act like a kid in a candy store. And that’s the best part of the whole experience for me, when I get to see the excitement in our guests eyes - especially with the kids when they discover a place like Peekaboo Canyon for the first time.
This is what our guests have to say about Nathalie on Trip Advisor:
'I had an amazing experience visiting the Slot Canyons and the White wave with Natalie. I had a fear of heights at the white wave… Natalie held my hand and helped me walk throughout the tour. It was super nice of her and very comforting to me that she took the extra care to help me out. I was very touched by her kindness and thoroughly enjoyed my tour.'
'Our tour with Nathalie was fantastic! It was a bumpy road in, but she handled it like a champ and once we got there she was very informative. She gave us plenty of time to explore and take many pictures without feeling rushed.'
'Natalie was so AMAZING! She was patient and kind, she made the entire experience wonderful. Plus she's an EXCELLENT driver! The tour was beautiful and very easy to do. We got to see so much of the canyon as well as ruins and the animal sanctuary. Highly recommend.'
Nathalie - we are glad to have you here at Dreamland, and we are grateful to be a part of your journey. Thank you for the grace and kindness that you bring to our team and guests!
