You are one of our valued guests at Dreamland Safari Tours. Thanks for being along for the adventure.
Spring is here! The temperatures in Kanab this week are in the high seventies, and our little town has been bustling with visitors who are traveling for spring break.  It's been wonderful to see a lot of familiar and new faces joining us on Dreamland adventures.

With spring-time visitation to Kanab, we have seen
Peekaboo Slot Canyon become a prize outing for many guests. That means two things: the canyon is starting to see a lot more visitors than in previous years, and it is well-advised to reserve your adventure with plenty of lead time -- we, and many other local outfitters, are now frequently finding ourselves in 'fully-booked' terrain when responding to guest inquiries for next-day or two-day out tours.

That said: it is still eminently possible to find solitude in our backyard.  If you prefer serenity and being far off the beaten path to Peekaboo's emerging Instagram-classic status, you'll probably love
South Coyote Buttes, the Grand Staircase Photographer's Dream, the Amazing Sandstone Teepees, and Marble Canyon.  If you're looking for the cross-over between a high level of solitude AND classic photo opportunities, White Pocket never disappoints.
We'd love to host you on adventure here in our backyard - and the next 2 months are the ultimate time for desert travel. If you're thinking about a fresh-air get away, don't delay making plans to make sure your adventure and lodging options aren't limited.

In the meantime, read on for two more topics:
1. Our next Wilderness First Responder course is now open for registration.
2. Meet Nathalie Bowman: Nathalie is not just a mom of eight -- she is also one of our newest guides with a deep and lasting love for this area.

With its radiant red cliffs, enticing hospitality, and a plethora of incredible outdoor locales right in our backyard, Kanab is quickly emerging as Utah's latest world-class outdoor adventure destination - which won't be a surprise to you if you've joined us on any hiking, off-road or photography adventure in the past.

As one of the region's largest guide services, we here at Dreamland feel a responsibility to support an elevated level of standards for our local outdoor community both on the professional and on the recreational level.  That's why we have invested in hosting regular Wilderness First Responder (WFR) courses locally in Kanab:  to open up hands-on, high-value wilderness medical training not just to our guides but also to our guests and the local outdoor community.

After hosting two successful Wilderness First Responder courses in conjunction with Wilderness Medical Associates last year, we are excited to bring you another Kanab-based 5-day WFR course this August. Come train alongside our fantastic guides to obtain your Wilderness First Responder certification - no prior medical knowledge is required for this intensive, practice-focused training course.

Nathalie joined Dreamland in the fall of 2020, and has a wonderful story to share. “The Grand Canyon was my first love” - After 30 years Nathalie has come full circle.
When did you first start working for Dreamland?

I joined the Dreamland team in October last year, first in the office plus guiding part time. And this spring I was able to step into guiding full time, which is extremely exciting.

Where are you originally from?

I was born and raised in Southeast Idaho, and I moved to Utah 21 years ago to raise my family with eight children, ages 10 - 27.  Our family moved to Kanab last May to start a new life. It feels like the Redrock welcomed us home. It’s a pleasure to live in a community that welcomed our family with open arms. I love watching my kids do things they enjoy and being able to spend a lot of time outdoors.

What's your favorite Dreamland tour?

That’s a tough one because I love them all. And I have to say: White Pocket. It looks like a different planet. Every corner you turn there is something else that’s absolutely amazing. I also have to mention Peekaboo Canyon! Every time I visit it feels like it’s the first time because I get to see it through the eyes of our guests.

If money was no object, what would you do all day?

Being a guide at Dreamland is already my dream come true as I get to guide people and share with them the beauty of the earth. The bigger dream I’m working on is to run retreats at the Grand Canyon and guide people who are dealing with crisis in their lives so they can heal.

If you could live anywhere EXCEPT for the desert Southwest, where would you want to live?

See, the funny thing is that being here so close to the Grand Canyon IS my dream come true. I’m right where I envisioned myself thirty years ago. When I was a teenager I worked at Jacobs Lake on the Kaibab Plateau for the summer. I like to joke that the Grand Canyon was my first love! And I always knew in my heart that I would be back one day. For three years I had been envisioning our move to Kanab, and last year we made the jump. I couldn’t be happier. As well as for my kids who still live at home. What a special environment to grow up in.

Share one of your favorite memories that you've made while guiding/working for Dreamland.

There are so many already. One of my favorite times was with a gentlemen who was a photographer. I guided him at White Pocket which is the most amazing playground. He just wanted to play, wander around and take pictures. It was so much fun watching him act like a kid in a candy store. And that’s the best part of the whole experience for me, when I get to see the excitement in our guests eyes - especially with the kids when they discover a place like Peekaboo Canyon for the first time.

This is what our guests have to say about Nathalie on Trip Advisor:

'I had an amazing experience visiting the Slot Canyons and the White wave with Natalie. I had a fear of heights at the white wave… Natalie held my hand and helped me walk throughout the tour. It was super nice of her and very comforting to me that she took the extra care to help me out. I was very touched by her kindness and thoroughly enjoyed my tour.'

'Our tour with Nathalie was fantastic! It was a bumpy road in, but she handled it like a champ and once we got there she was very informative. She gave us plenty of time to explore and take many pictures without feeling rushed.'

'Natalie was so AMAZING! She was patient and kind, she made the entire experience wonderful. Plus she's an EXCELLENT driver!  The tour was beautiful and very easy to do.  We got to see so much of the canyon as well as ruins and the animal sanctuary.  Highly recommend.'

Nathalie - we are glad to have you here at Dreamland, and we are grateful to be a part of your journey. Thank you for the grace and kindness that you bring to our team and guests!

Parting words.

We mentioned it earlier in this letter, but will say it once more: if you are planning on visiting us in Kanab this year, book your tour with us early if you can. We've had many days that are so busy with guest conversations and booking inquiries that we are literally not putting down the phone once during business hours. Thank you for your patience with us in case you end up not getting through on the first attempt and having to leave a message. Paul and our expert tour experience coordinators Breana and Brenda love connecting with you, and are doing their best to get back to you as quickly as they can.  Thank you for trusting us to take great care of you in your precious time away from work and other obligations - we love sharing adventures with you.
Thanks for being part of our community. We hope that you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy wherever you are. We're sharing more frequent updates on Facebook and Instagram than via the newsletter, so if you are still reading and enjoy hearing from us please follow along.
