Beginning September 1, 2021 no child will be permitted to attend school without evidence of immunization or proof of immunity against disease. Students enrolled in grades Pre-K through 12 are to be immunized against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, measles, mumps, rubella, polio and varicella. Additionally, all students enrolled in grades 7-12 must be immunized against meningococcal disease.

Since it takes time to complete immunization series, this is the time to call your child’s primary care provider to set up a schedule to start receiving vaccines if your child is going to be able to attend the first day of school this fall.  I can let you know what immunizations they are missing for school compliance. Please call, text, or email me with questions.

Thank you for your attention to this new law and we hope to see your child in school next fall.

Sincerely,

Brittany RN, School Nurse

The posters hanging up through town are a representative sample of different middle school grades and different activities. These posters are hung up to remind us of the MDI Promise, which is included in the newsletter below. Thank you to the photographer, Monty Rand, and to the students who posed for the camera. The posters look fantastic!
8th grade students in Tech class used the free vector graphics program, Inkscape, to create designs for t-shirts (Inkscape is a free, open-source software similar to Adobe Illustrator).  We then cut the designs on heat transfer vinyl on the school's Cricut and ironed them on.

Parents -- Self Care is important! Remember the announcements on planes to put your own oxygen mask on before helping others? The stresses of the pandemic coupled with the stresses of parenting can make it so you forget to take care of YOU. Check out these Self Care Suggestions for Parents. You may want to review the list and select one or two to incorporate into your daily routines. You could add a self care practice to things you already do (e.g., with your cup of coffee). If you talk with someone else and share what you plan to do, you will be more likely to do it. Then you can check in about how it is going, review the list of suggestions, get and give encouragement, etc.
