Varroa Mapping in Scotland
We Need Your Help
The main reason for the introduction of these change was to comply with export health certification requirements as a result of the new EU Animal Health Law. However, it could also prove very helpful in our aim to control and reduce spread of this devastating pest, particularly for those valuable areas which remain Varroa free in Scotland.
I’m therefore writing to you today to ask if you can help us to develop a map of Scotland, highlighting these areas of Varroa freedom. This exercise will be completed by the 18th of April, before the legislation is in place and is entirely voluntary but would provide a good ‘starting point’ for reporting (as the official method for reporting has yet to be determined) and it will also serve as a valuable decision-making tool for beekeepers and sellers when moving bees.
