Appointment of New Director of the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics

Professor Juna Kollmeier has been named the new Director of the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics starting July 1, 2021 when Professor Norman Murray completes his third term as Director. Professor Kollmeier will continue to advance the Institute’s renowned successes and discoveries on the origin and evolution of the universe, and the many other phenomena discovered by modern astronomy.

Mitacs Session for the Social Sciences and Humanities

Learn how Mitacs funding can accelerate research programs and create opportunities for trainees. Speakers from Mitacs will present their programs followed by a panel discussion. Register and submit your questions. A&S contact: Glaucia Lima.

Call for Nominations — NSERC Arthur B. McDonald Fellowships 2021

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) has opened nominations for the 2021 Arthur B. McDonald Fellowships (formerly the E.W.R. Steacie Memorial Fellowships) which recognize early-stage academic researchers in the natural sciences and engineering and support them to enhance their research capacity. Internal nominations should be submitted to the Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation by April 30, 2021.

A&S Resources for Navigating Mental Health Supports

A new collection of mental health resources is available for faculty and staff, including resources for supporting students, which provides suggestions for responding to different situations, as well as information about campus and community resources.

Updates to A&S Research Restart Process

The A&S Research Restart Process has been revised to incorporate the expansion of research activities on- and off-campus. For complete details, review the recent CPAD Memo and visit the Arts & Science Research Restart website.

Review of the University-Mandated Leave of Absence Policy — Extension of Consultation Period

In early March, the Provost initiated a review of the University-Mandated Leave of Absence Policy. After careful consideration of a variety of factors, including a request received from student unions, the reviewers have decided to extend the consultation period to Fall 2021. All members of the University community are invited to submit their feedback on the policy.

2020–21 Recipients of the Early Career Teaching Award and Teaching Fellowship (PDAD&C #57)

The award recipients of the 2020–21 University of Toronto Early Career Teaching Award (ECTA) and the University of Toronto Teaching Fellowship (UTTF) have been announced. Together, the ECTA and UTTF recognize faculty members at the University who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, pedagogical innovation, and the cultivation of academic leadership and mentoring skills.
