It's officially time to start thinking about summer. We are ....

From the start of SLSC summer

Here's what you need to know today

Pre-Registration opens Today!!

Yes, we are living in uncertain times.

But also, yes, we need to plan and think about the summer.

Frankly, this is all out of our hands. But if we don't begin this process, it's going to set us back in our planning, and preparing for this summer.

In April will begin PRE-REGISTRATION. This is so that we can all do the planning that we need to do. Once we have more certainty about the summer, we will turn this into an actual Registration, and that's when you will be billed.

Because of all of this uncertainty, here's what we want to say up front: If it turns out that SLSC is forced to cancel all programs, or delay our programs, BEFORE we launch our Registration process, you WILL receive a FULL refund. That is why we have chosen the waitlist function of Checklick - they won't charge us for those transaction fees.

At this point, the Board is still evaluating how to deal with cancellation fees after Registration has begun, either because we are forced to make a change, or because you had to make a change. There are administrative costs and fees to Third Party Vendors that we still pay, regardless of the reason. This would only be put in place to cover the administrative costs from our vendors, not as a way to fundraise money for the Club.

While we strive to be accessible and transparent, there are many new challenges to running our programs this year. In the past, we've had many ways to complete registration -- up until the morning of the program start. But this year, we have moved registration entirely online, and we put deadlines in place to accommodate all the extra planning the instructors will need to do for each session.

It's all new to us as well, so bear with us as we figure this out.

We hope that you're all staying safe in these difficult times. It's nice to think of warmer temperatures, the sun on our backs, watching our kids out sailing on the lake, and having a bit of a break from the reality of this year.

If you're ready to begin registration, follow this link to our website and then follow the correct links to register on Checklick.

Very best to you and yours,
SLSC Board

What is the Checklick Process?

For Checklick
follow this link to get to the SLSC 2021 program page.

  1. Go to Checklick.com and either set up an account or log in to your existing account
**SLSC has been using this system for years, so you likely have an account if you're a returning sailor. This year to address Covid concerns, Checklick added a "waitlist" layer to their system which we will use for our Pre-Registration

  2. Choose the session/s that you want to register for

  3. This action will be considered Pre-Registration

  4. You will register with your credit card, but you WILL NOT be charged

  5. When we have more certainty about the summer, your Pre-Registration will become an official Registration, and then your credit card will be charged the full amount

**NOTE: we send you a notification by email prior to this
**Also note that we may need to shift and adjust these times and dates based on Provincial Guidelines....Just know that we will be in contact with you as it happens.

SO I STILL HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS...
Question:
My plans are still up in the air for the summer.
Can I get a refund if our summer plans change?

ANSWER:
We understand that many plans are still up-in-the-air,
and also, changing quickly.
We get it. Life is like that now.

However, there are still hard costs associated
with registration that aren't avoidable.
So while we want to remain flexible, the Board is assessing how to deal with cancellation fees outside of the two-week window.

The Board may opt to require an administrative fee for cancellation.
This decision will be finalized before the
Registration goes live.

The best option is to cancel by the deadline,
which is two weeks before the session starts.
QUESTION:
How can I know if I’m on the Waitlist or not?
And what position is it?

ANSWER:
If you register your child through the Checklick system,
you will be put on our initial waitlist.

Once the planning phase is over, and we are cleared to
open registration, we will open up spots
and people on the waitlist will come off and
become fully registered -- you will be
notified prior to this happening.

If we have more people interested than we appear to
have space for, we will keep a waitlist
for those interested people.

The waitlist isn't something that we can publish,
because it's based on sailing level, cohort size, boat
partners, and other things we don't even see
yet in this fast-changing world.

Know that we want to get everyone that we can
out onto the water this summer, and that our new our
waitlist system is the best way to help facilitate that happening.

QUESTION:
What happens if I’m not quite in the right
sailing level, eg, I’m two checkmarks away
from CanSail3, but still in CanSail2?

ANSWER:
Our Instructors will make every reasonable effort
to make sure that the structure of the cohorts
will maximize the experience of the program.
**Please contact us directly if you have
a specific concern about this.

EMAIL US

Our Instructors will be assessing all sailors to
ensure they are placed in the correct
CanSail level for their ability, and will help the sailors to access
the missing items as soon as is possible.

QUESTION:
Can I change who I want to sail with during the summer?

ANSWER:
Yes, but only between sessions.
Mix it up and learn to sail with different friends!

NOTE that the deadline for these requests is two weeks
prior to the start of each session.

ALSO NOTE that these choices will need to conform to the current Covid-19 protocols, that are determined by Public Health and the Government of Ontario. In short, out of our hands...but we will do our best to work within the rules that are available to us to maximize the fun.

During the session:
On a case-by-case basis, it
might be that in the middle of a session,
a change is required. If that happens, the Head Instructor,
and along with the Level Instructor, will figure out the right solution for this.

For CanSail 4, 5, 6: Due to the nature of these advanced
levels, you may request a person to sail with.

QUESTION:
What happens if we’re new to Sturgeon Point and
our kids are older but still want to learn to sail?

ANSWER:
Great! We LOVE to hear this and welcome all
new sailors to SLSC, at ANY age. Please reach out
to us directly so that we can help find a way to
make this happen, and make it fun. We have ideas...
QUESTION:
Can I move to a single-handed boat if I’m not happy
with my sailing partner decided on the first day of the session?

ANSWER:
Each session the Instructors will work hard to make sure
that all sailors are matched or boats are assigned.
In very select circumstances, these assignments
may change. This may not always be possible
due to the nature of our Covid-19 protocols required,
or unforeseen circumstances.
QUESTION:
My plans are still open, what is the deadline to register
for a new session, assuming there is space still available?

ANSWER:
This is new. The deadline to advise SLSC of changes is now
two weeks prior to the start of the session. We need to do this because
there is much more planning that needs to go into this year.
We just cannot adapt the morning-of like we used to.
Amazing...you read this whole thing.
