Hello Everyone,
Thank you so much for your ongoing support of this meaningful tribute to all who have served at RAF Scampton through the generations.
The window's construction is moving forward steadily and the great news from its creator, Claire, is that the installation may now be as early as June this year.
I am looking forward to meeting a representative of the British Forces Broadcasting Service later this week, who is coming to Scampton to make a news film about the project.
As the window has a military theme, the initial plan was to have a UV resistant external polycarbonate screen as protection. However, the local planning authority rejected the material and insisted on a stainless steel black powder-coated external mesh. They have now granted planning permission to install this type of protection.
Following the construction processes of: determining lead line and shading patterns, glass cutting of the mouth-blown glass base, firing of the powdered glass to create the individual icons, and finalising the base colours, Claire has now started the detailed work of hand-painting the detail.
Here are the photos showing the latest developments in the window's construction.

Here are the window panes which are still available for sponsorship should you know of anyone who might like to sponsor a pane and dedicate it to a loved one, before the window is installed.
If you have sponsored a window panel, and have not yet sent in your dedication, please could you do so.

Vulcan - Limited Edition Offer
The MOD have now recently confirmed that RAF Scampton will close next year.
We would like to thank Wing Commander Bill Ramsey (rtd) and Squadron Leader Martin Withers DFC (rtd) (Vulcan display pilots on her final flight) for their support during the last 18 months, which has enabled this meaningful tribute to the generations that have served at the station, to happen.
As a final gesture Bill has originally signed an exclusive limited edition of ten photographs of himself with ‘The Spirit of Great Britain’ and donated them to the cause. There are just 6 remaining. Each photo comes with the story of the iconic aircraft and a certificate of authenticity.
More information at www.scamptonchurch.org/vulcanfinale
Our gratitude also goes to Vulcan to the Sky Trust for their incredible support. They have launched a campaign called 'Operation Safeguard' to ensure the longevity of 'The Spirit of Great Britain' which was the last Vulcan ever to fly. Find out more HERE.

Scampton Church 'At Risk'
We are now fund raising to develop a Community Church and RAF Commonwealth War Graves Heritage Centre.  This involves restoration work, the installation of an accessible toilet, kitchen and central heating in our English Heritage 'at risk' 14th century grade II* listed building . We have recently been supported by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, who have chosen Scampton Church as a focal site for 2021. We want to restore and protect this building -  home to 107 Commonwealth war and RAF service graves, for generations to come.
This project is part of a community partnership between Scampton Church, RAF Scampton, Scampton Parish Council, CWGC, our local schools and The Dambusters Inn.
