But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name. John 22:31

Do you believe that a man named Jesus, from Nazareth in Israel was executed as a criminal?

And that he was resurrected, never to die again?

And that, because of this, the God who created the whole universe will give you – as a free gift – the chance to gain an everlasting body after you die?

That’s just three things to believe.

Except that the first two are matters of historical record, better attested than most events from 2,000 years ago.

The third thing to believe (which has the greatest impact on us) comes from what that man, Jesus, said. We know what Jesus said because a number of his followers wrote down what happened. At least one (Matthew) recorded much of what he said in a type of shorthand writing, as he was speaking.

So, you can ignore the historical facts if you choose. But ignoring the facts doesn’t change them.  The decision you must make depends on whether you want to live in the eternal promise of the risen Christ. Indeed, “you may have life in his name”.
