Cavaliers' Term One

Tuesday 30 March 2021

Hello everyone! As it is the final week of school term one, that means:
  • Bladez term one has finished;
  • Beginners class 2021-1 is finishing;
  • Registrations for all Cavs fencers - Term two registrations will be due soon
    (and term one registrations are now overdue!).

Bladez
We hope you have enjoyed the first term of Bladez in 2021! With school term one ending on Thursday and Easter starting on Friday, we are taking a break over the school holidays. Term two will start the Saturday after the next school term begins: Saturday 24 April. Enjoy your Easter break and we look forward to more Bladez classes with you next term :)

Registrations
Thanks to everyone who registered for term one, or upfront for 2021. Our club is not-for-profit, and we rely on registration fees to pay for venue hire, coaching, and equipment.

If you haven't registered for 2021 yet, it is very important that you register for term one or upfront, unless you are currently in Beginners or a Bladez trial. Remember that you'll need your FWA affiliation receipt to register. If you received a voucher from us for KidSport or credit for registration during the COVID-lockdown in 2020, you can use this towards your payment.

If you are paying by term rather than upfront, term two registrations will also be due soon. Use the same link for term one and term two registrations for the club: https://www.registernow.com.au/secure/Register.aspx?E=42335. If you have any problems or questions, such as what membership type you should use* and whether you need equipment hire, drop us an email and we'll be happy to help.

* If you see both Junior and Bladez registration options,
use Bladez for the school-term Sat 1:30pm sessions,
or Junior for general sessions Sat 2pm/Wed 6:30pm.

Beginners 2021-1
Once the beginners' course ends, you can register for the club for a term or calendar year, either as junior (under 21) or senior. Before registering for the club, you'll need to affiliate with Fencing WA - an annual fee payable from the FWA website https://www.fencingwa.com. Keep the receipt number from FWA as you'll need it during club registration. Club membership prices are listed on the first page of the RegisterNow link above.

At the start of term two (Saturday 24 April), we'll begin another transition group for younger fencers joining the main group for the first time. Speak to us at the club for details.

Which weapon should I pick?
Most fencers focus on a single type of weapon, though many also fence one or two other types as well. We recommend sticking to a single weapon for at least the first few months to avoid too much confusion whilst you start out. The transition group focusses on foil to help cement the basics before choosing between foil, epee, and sabre.

When are sessions?
Our regular sessions run from Saturday 2:00-4:30pm and Wednesday 6:00-9:00pm every week, except for a few weeks' break over the summer. Members can attend one or both (or neither!) each week. Sessions usually starts with a group warm up and often a footwork session. Then the group splits up into the weapon types for guided drills and/or bouts.

Thanks everyone, enjoy the Easter break and we'll see you at the club soon!

Monday training group will not be running on Easter Monday. All other sessions will continue over the school holidays, including Easter Saturday 3 April.
