Winter 2020 -21 Impact Report
This winter has felt like no other. Lockdowns have caused people to spend much more time at home leading to higher than average fuel bills. Families have faced a fall in income due to furlough, reduced hours, or job loss, leaving many households unable to afford their heating costs over winter.
Throughout the pandemic, BHESCo have worked tirelessly to provide essential support to those most in need, and this short report shows what we achieved.
Welcome to the team - Zoe Forbes, Solar PV Business Manager
BHESCo are delighted to welcome Zoe Forbes to our team, who joins as BHESCo's Solar PV Business Manager. Zoe brings a wealth of experience from her years delivering successful solar power projects with EcoSphere, and will be supporting the business development of new large-scale solar projects. "I have always been a huge fan of BHESCo and am delighted to be a part of their pioneering work in community energy".
BLOG: What is COP26 and why does it matter for community energy? 
If COP26 is to be a success then policy makers must recognise the vital importance of mobilising communities to shape their own route to a sustainable future. In the months leading up to the event, BHESCo will be working alongside Community Energy England to promote the value of the of community energy sector, and to ensure it receives the support it needs to thrive.

Green Homes Grant abandoned after 6 months
The UK Government's Green Homes Grant scheme, which was launched only last September to great fanfare by the Chancellor Rishi Sunak, has been scrapped. Originally intended to deliver home energy efficiency and heating upgrades to 600,000 households, the scheme has reached only 10% of its target. Complex bureaucracy and a dearth of qualified installers are blamed for the spectacular failure of the scheme.

Brighton & Hove City Council publishes 2030 Carbon Neutral Programme
Brighton Council has released the first draft of its 2030 Carbon Neutral Programme, informed by recommendations made by the 2020 Climate Assembly and Youth Assembly, amongst other public consultations. The programme examines the main contributors to the city's carbon footprint (Transport, Energy, Waste, etc) and sets out suggestions for reducing each sector's environmental impact .

"How to run a successful share offer" with Carbon Copy & Ethex
Earlier this month BHESCo were invited to take part in a webinar hosted by climate change charity Carbon Copy, exploring the key features involved in running a successful community share offer. Over the course of half an hour, and in collaboration with ethical fundraising platform Ethex, BHESCo's Dan Curtis discussed the importance of local partnerships, a proven track record, an experienced board, and a water-tight business plan.
