Organic materials essential for life on Earth are found for the first time on an asteroid

Research from the Department of Earth Sciences, has found water and organic matter on the surface of an asteroid sample returned from the inner Solar System. This is the first time that organic materials, which could have provided chemical precursors for the origin of life on Earth, have been found on an asteroid. Read more about the discovery here.

A new centre created to explore the rise of 'emotional politics'

A new interdisciplinary 'Centre for the Politics of Feelings' will be established in September 2021 at the University of London, in partnership between its School of Advanced Study and Royal Holloway. The centre is led by Manos Tsakiris, Professor of Psychology at Royal Holloway and aims to address how emotions and their underlying neurophysiological mechanisms shape our political beliefs and behaviours.
